HI all, bought more plants again today. Any suggestions for planting a full perennial corner of my yard? not sure if i should put fabric weed blocker between the plants.

Lynn257

I never have used the fabric weed blocker but I do use cedar mulch. Some perennials need to spread out. I don’t know if the fabric will prevent this.

interesting cedar mulch i had not considered.

Cedar is acidic, make sure none of your plants will be stunted by it, lots of plants love acid

I haven’t had any problem with the cedar mulch. Use it all over.

Hi Lynn, good suggestion, i prefer mulch

Lynn257

It is natural and will eventually go back into the soil. I have to check out the mulch from our town. They shred the branches when they trim the trees and you can bring bags and get free mulch if you live in the town. I usually get mulch from HOme Depot in May when they put it on sale for 5 bags (2 cubic feet) for $10. By June it goes back to 3 bags for $10.00

I would not use the fabric, perennial s grow sideways as well as up, they need space, plant ones that grow tall in the back etc. well you know that drill

Linda Illinois

you know I have not planted perennials in years. always annuals. will check the specs of the plants. got a big butterfly bush today that looks root bound so better do that first. deep purple.

VT Nancy

Ohhhhhhh sounds gorgeous, split up roots a bit before you plant the bush

The mantra for perrenial is: the first year they sleep, the second year they creep and the third year they leap. Third year you can start splitting them up to enlarge your garden

I had a deep purple one but Lou planted it beside a live oak tree so when the tree was larger, the BFB died.

Hi, everyone! Hope you have had a good day. It was 109 here earlier and has now “cooled off” to 107 at 5:30 PM. Had our new boy, Quanah, in day care today so he could do some playing as Tsin’tia doesn’t play that anymore at age 12. He was glad to see me when I picked him up, though.

Here too, but we have so many mountains, sometime those clouds just bump into them and not above them, so we get rain here but not there

Our HEBs now deliver so I usually take advantage of that & also because if I GO to the store my bill will be a lot higher from picking up extra stuff. I figure it’s worth the small delivery fee.

It’s pretty bad! Felt sorry for Quanah having to ride in that heat. Most of the A/C stays up front so the back is warmer but he just won’t sit up front where the good A/C is.
