Pot Plant Owls - Johannesburg, South Africa

You are watching live streaming video of a Spotted Eagle Owls nest, better known as "The Pot Plant Owls". This nest has been built in a potted plant on the camera owners balcony. The Eagle Owls have returned to this nesting site every year since 2008 to raise their brood.
About this nest - The female will lay from 3-4 eggs 48 hours apart and begin a 30 day incubation period after the last egg is laid. The owlets will fledge after about 55-70 days from hatching. Read more about this pair of Spotted Eagle Owls at the pot plant Owl blog.

Mpho and its sibling are doing really well. Hope you watched the naming video on You Tube and have given us your suggestions (and why you chose the name) for our second owlet. Naming will take place on WEDNESDAY 7 NOV at Central African Time so please get your names in today or tomorrow.

Shared from Gill Shepstone Pot Plant Owl (1 hr):

All going very well with our sweet owl family. We’re changing internet service providers to increase line speed which is why the webcam hasn’t been up and running. Should be back on soonest!

Till then: we’ve got a lovely video about the naming of our first adopted owlet. As soon as the internet speed allows, I’ll upload this video.

This means that there is still an owlet yet to be named so please start thinking about possible names.

First naming video explains more…to follow soon

When they put these 2 owlets in the pot there were 2 smaller owl babies also. They chose to put these 2 larger owlets in the nest. Lady swooped down at the man who took the non viable eggs out of the nest. She hit him in the head. We are wondering what happened to the 2 smaller owls?
