-The H Lee White arrived at the Duluth canal and lift bridge this morning. It’s here to unload slag and load up on iron ore pellets.
What is slag? It’s a waste product created when metals or ores are refined or smelted. It’s a non-metallic substance that’s primarily made of aluminum, magnesium, and calcium silicates.

H. Lee White is a diesel-powered Lake freighter owned by the American Steamship Company. Built in 1974, it features self-unloading technology and measures 704 feet long and 78 feet wide, carrying 35,400 tons.
