The DNF was sleeping sitting on a branch just outside the nest bowl when an owl came out of nowhere and struck her. It looked to be a smaller owl and the female seems to be fine. It happens very quickly. At the beginning of the video you will see the owl strike in slow motion followed by a replay in realtime.
