Decorah Eagles - Decorah, Iowa.

You are watching a live broadcast of the Decorah Eagles nest cam. The male Eagle(slightly smaller in size) and female Eagle both help in incubation of the eggs and will also both provide food for the eaglets after they hatch. This camera was Set up and is maintained by the Raptor Resource Project, a non-profit organization for the preservation of falcons, eagles, ospreys, hawks, and owls.

About this nest - The 2013-2014 season is the 2nd year in which the Eagles have nested at the "new" nest location. The new nest is located about 500ft east of the old one. Located right next to Trout creek, the nest is about 70ft up in the fork of a cottonwood tree. The nest is about 4ft long/wide and about 3ft deep. Reposting for anyone interested: Eaglets will start branching at about 9-10 weeks (Branching isn’t a prerequisite for fledging, but most often on this nest they have done some branching first). Branching refers to the hopping about and jumping from branch to branch around the nest. Fledge is 11-13 weeks. After they fledge they will be taught how to soar and hunt and other eagle skills – dispersal will happen later in the fall – Sept/Oct. I see the wind in Decorah is picking up. I guess the predicted rain is on the way. NO worries. These “kids” are now water proof and will probably have fun flapping around in the breeze and enjoy being cooled off. bigsmile
