Snow Bunting Nest Cam – Longyearbyen, Svalbard – Norway
You are watching Snow Buntings nesting. The Snow Bunting is the most northerly song bird in the world and the only songbird in this area of Norway. The male is mostly white during summer whereas the female has a grey-brown head and backside. During winter the male has more brownish upper parts with black streaks. During summer both male and female have black beeks, whereas in winter beeks are yellow in color.
Egg laying: Nesting starts in May every year. 4-7 eggs can be expected per clutch. Incubation takes 12-14 days and starts after all eggs have been laid. The young are fed insects by both parents after hatching and will fledge 12-14 days after hatching. Several clutches can be expected during nesting season.
