The Alpena arrived this morning(11/5/24) with a load of cement. This beautiful ship is a fan favorite of many of all the great lakes ships.
About the Alpena:
Built in 1942, she’s the oldest steamship on the great lakes. In 1989 the Alpena was reduced in length which enabled it to haul cement and get into ports that would otherwise have been too small. She has been hauling cement ever since. In 2015 a fire on the ship caused 3 million dollars in damage to the ship while at dry dock in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
