The Minnesota DNR EagleCam is live once again — and viewers across the world are thrilled to welcome back this beloved Mississippi River bald eagle pair. Now entering its 13th year of streaming, the EagleCam returns with an improved nest-view angle, better image clarity, and a front-row seat to one of nature’s most iconic wildlife stories.
This year’s launch also coincides with GivingTuesday, a perfect time to support Minnesota’s Nongame Wildlife Program and the eagles that bring joy to so many.

🦅 Nest Preparations Are Underway
The resident eagle pair has already been busy at their nest, which sits near the Mississippi River in the Twin Cities area — a region home to one of the largest bald eagle populations in the lower 48 states.
What the eagles are doing right now:
- Rebuilding and strengthening the nest
- Bringing in sticks and soft nesting materials
- Bonding and pair-strengthening behaviors
- Preparing for the anticipated mid-February egg-laying window
These behaviors strongly suggest that the pair intends to reuse last year’s nest, and activity has been high since the camera came online.
📸 New Camera Upgrades for a Better View
During the off-season, the DNR team:
- Moved the main EagleCam to a better vantage point
- Added an antenna to improve streaming quality
- Adjusted angles for clearer, closer nest visibility
The result? Viewers can enjoy a sharper, more stable look at the nest than in previous seasons.
🌳 The Habitat Cam Is Also LIVE
Alongside the primary nest cam, the EagleCam habitat camera has returned for the season. This camera overlooks the area once home to the original eagle nest, which fell in April 2023.
Although that nest is no longer visible, the former EagleCam pair — along with other wildlife — still visits this habitat, offering surprise appearances throughout the day.
🦅 A Note About the Nest & Wildlife Behavior
Some viewers have expressed concerns about:
- The tree’s structural strength
- Missing the view of the old nest
- Limited visuals at certain times
The Minnesota DNR has confirmed:
- The new nest tree is safe and suitable for the pair.
- The old nest location still remains valuable habitat, even though the nest fell in 2023.
