Oceanside Barn Owls
Mel (male) & Sydney (female), are a mating pair of barn owls located in Oceanside, California. The owl box owner is originally from Melbourne, Australia. The box was set up in mid November 2010 and the owls could be seen in the box just two weeks later.
This owl box is 16ft above the ground in the owners back yard which is near acres of open wilderness. This provides for plenty of hunting grounds for the owls.

Incubation is 30-34 days from the date each egg is laid. Unlike chickens, Barn Owls begin to incubate immediately after the 1st egg is laid. Each egg will hatch on a different day. All time is in PST(Pacific Standard Time).

Glad I stopped here, didn’t know there was another clutch. Hi Gwen!
Hi Kasey, sorry you didn’t know I emailed HNF to let her now but never responded…good to see you, Mel is providing very well..
That’s great!
Hi! I’ve been watching Mel and Sydney since 2011 and missed the last few years. I’m excited to be back. I have a silly question – since it’s been about 15 years, do we know if this is the same Mel and Sydney barn owls couple from the beginning? I’m not sure how many years wild barn owls can have clutches for but it’s amazing to see them every year!
Hello, I doubt it is the original pair.
No not the original pair, I think by now it is several different ones.. I have been watching seen Molly !. The years go by fast it seems but glad you are back…and welcome
At 12:52 am she is feeding them. Then at 12 :58 she tries to give a part of a mouse to the oldest one, 12:59 she pulls out a shell and puts it at the side, Now there are 3 babies..
Camera back on and at 5:42 pm you can see an owlet out from under Syd, I saw still 2 babies.. 3 eggs intact yet..7:30 Mel paid a visit’’
