Djuma Waterhole Live Stream

The Djuma waterhole live stream overlooks Gowrie Dam, a gathering place for wildlife inside the Djuma Game Reserve. The camera runs throughout the day and night, providing a constantly changing look at the African bush.

Sometimes the waterhole is quiet. Minutes later, elephants may arrive for a drink, antelope may gather along the shoreline, or a predator may emerge from the surrounding vegetation.

Because this is a live wildlife camera, there is no schedule for animal appearances. That unpredictability is part of what makes the Djuma Cam worth watching.

What Animals Can You See on the Djuma Dam Cam?

Elephants are among the most memorable visitors to the Djuma waterhole. Lone bulls may stop for a quiet drink, while family groups can turn the dam into a busy scene of splashing, drinking and social activity.

Lions and leopards may also appear, particularly during cooler parts of the day and after dark. Sightings are never guaranteed, but the possibility of a big cat walking into view keeps viewers watching.

Other wildlife commonly seen around the Djuma Game Reserve includes buffalo, giraffes, impala, waterbuck and nyala. Hyenas, smaller mammals, reptiles and many species of birds may also make appearances.

The combination of large mammals, predators, antelope and birdlife means the view can change completely from one moment to the next.

Where Is the Djuma Dam Cam?

The Djuma Dam Cam overlooks Gowrie Dam in the Djuma Private Game Reserve in South Africa’s Sabi Sand region, near Kruger National Park and the wider Greater Kruger wildlife area.

Animals move naturally through this landscape, allowing the camera to capture unscripted wildlife behavior around the waterhole and surrounding bush.

Gowrie Dam is the name of the waterhole seen on the live camera, which is why viewers may also search for the stream as the Gowrie Dam Cam, Djuma waterhole cam or Djuma Game Reserve webcam.

Best Time to Watch

Wildlife can appear at any hour, but sunrise and sunset are especially good times to check the Djuma live cam. Cooler temperatures often bring more activity around the waterhole.

Nighttime can be equally interesting. The darkness brings different sounds and different visitors, and predators may become more active after sunset.

If the waterhole looks quiet, give it time. Listen for splashing, bird alarm calls, elephant trumpeting or other sounds that may signal animals approaching outside the camera’s current view.

The Story of the Djuma Cam

The history of the Djuma webcam reaches all the way back to 1998, making it part of the early history of watching wildlife on the internet.

The original camera technology was far simpler than today’s high-definition live stream. Later in 1998, the camera was positioned to overlook Gowrie Dam, establishing the view that wildlife watchers around the world have come to recognize.

Over the years, the technology has changed dramatically, but the idea remains wonderfully simple: give people around the world a live window into the African bush.

How the Djuma Camera Is Operated

The Djuma live camera is remotely controlled by camera operators often called “zoomies.”

These operators pan, tilt and zoom the camera while searching the surrounding waterhole and bush for wildlife. When an animal appears, they can follow its movement and provide viewers with a closer look.

That human control makes the Djuma Cam different from a completely fixed webcam. The operator can react as wildlife arrives and search beyond the immediate water’s edge when sounds or movement suggest something interesting is nearby.

That’s awful but glad you are better now. My neighbor had the flu and covid at the same time last winter. Ans she was fully vaccinated, makes one wonder if getting the shots are worth it.

I haven’t had either one for several years and won’t get them. Had a bad reaction once and just can’t justify doing again. My husband was in the local hospital for a vascular procedure when covid first hit here. It was a very confusing scene no one knew what to do. Then they overdid the masking and shots and the 6 foot rule.

I was the same. When my hubby came home from the hospital after his heart surgery is when I got mine and only one. It didn’t agree with me. I guess I’ve been lucky.
