22:45 pm local time, the orange cat just came by, checked both little buildings and left the stage without taking any ornaments down 😆

Look, isn’t that cute? The Recke people have set up some christmas decoration 😊
But food is only the bowl of sunflower seeds. Just saw a little mouse taking a few seeds and disappearing very fast…

Since there is not much to see here, I want to share some very interesting info I found about this cam and location. https://www.youtube.com/c/NatureTec/community is the yt channel of the guy who set up all the cams and technology. There are other cam, f.ex. blue tits nest cams, a squirrel nest cam, and of course hedgies. On my screenshot, you can see one of the youngsters on a scale, just above 600 grams which is enough for a safe hibernation. Most of the explanations that accompany the pics are both German and English. What I could not find was info… Read more »

Interesting, all of it! There is someone, really dedicated to the local wildlife – and to technics 😊
Unfortunately, Recke is about 450 km north of Kaiserslautern, otherwise I might have thought about a visit… It is more northern than middle of Germany > very plain. And indeed a bit colder, so maybe the hedgies really have decided to go into hibernation.
Let us see what the next days bring.

Wasn’t there a gnome AND a pumpkin, a little more to the right? Maybe they changed the camera angle a bit?

No, you were right, Pella – just scrolled down and found it was even two pumpkins instead of the gnome!
Maybe some other anmimal tried to eat the pumpkins 😉

The hill country deer, opossums and porcupines love pumpkin and shrubs and small trees.

You have much more choice 😀 there might be some deer where the cam sits but that’s it. I am wondering if the owners are away because there is only one bowl with sunflower seeds. Or they expect more snow and the hedgies to go into hibernation… but weather forecast for the whole of Germany spoke of +10 C and higher next week and no winter in sight. On the other hand, the cranes are flying like mad, I heard them last night, and today five or six big flocks during the day, direction France – wish I could fly… Read more »
