The eagles typically lay eggs in late January. Incubation, hatching, and early chick rearing run through late winter and early spring.
Over the years, Jackie and Shadow have become fan favorites as viewers watch them overcome storms, snow, heat, and the occasional raven or intruding eagle. Their nest sits more than a mile above sea level in the San Bernardino Mountains. Here, changing weather at Big Bear Lake can bring bright sunshine one day and heavy snow the next. I am hearing that Jackie has not been seen for 2 days. This news just came out today. There were several subadult eagles flying around and they said that Jackie fought off the subadults. An adult bald eagle needing help was found at Big Bear and it was taken to an eagle rescue center.

They have not officially confirmed that this is Jackie, but people who have been watching the BB nest for years posted comments under the video that the eagle in this video looks like Jackie. The sex of this eagle has not yet been determined. They also have not stated yet what the injuries of this eagle are. If it’s Jackie, I really hope that the injuries can be repaired quickly.
Shadow was defending the nest tonight. Shadow was by himself on the branch just before dark. It’s going to be more difficult for Shadow, providing fish at the same time as needing to defend the nest from the aggressive subadults.

I have now read no broken bones, but there are injuries.
Thanks Carole. I’m not surprised to hear this after seeing the video showing how she was attacked on the ground by the subadults who are young and strong. I hope that the injuries won’t be permanent so that she can be released back to the nest area.
Latest report says she is anemic and something wrong with kidneys.

The reports from today are much the same. I saw a video of her fighting off two sub adults. They are saying she should have been able to fight them off, but she was in a weakened condition due to the anemia. They are doing further testing to find out why.
