- DH3 hatched: March 27 at about 7:01 a.m. CT.
- DH4 hatched: March 29, giving HD and HM2 two eaglets at Nest N6.
- Both eaglets fledged: June 18. DH4 left the nest at about 5:45 a.m., while DH3 also fledged later that day.
- DH3: was later admitted to SOAR with a soft-tissue wing injury. The latest official update reported no wing or leg fractures, very low blood lead levels, weight gain, and continued rehabilitation in a flight pen.

About the Decorah Eagles
The current adult pair at the Decorah Fish Hatchery is HD (Hatchery Dad) and HM2 (Hatchery Mom II). HD has occupied and defended the hatchery territory for years. HM2 became his mate after the loss of Hatchery Mom (HM), beginning another chapter in the long history of bald eagles nesting around the Decorah trout hatchery.
HD and HM2 spent much of 2025 strengthening their pair bond and working on potential nest sites. By late 2025, the pair had clearly adopted Nest N6, setting the stage for their successful 2026 nesting season.
Decorah Nest N6
N6 is the sixth nest associated with the chain of Decorah Hatchery Eagles. It sits near the Decorah Fish Hatchery and became the primary nest for HD and HM2 after the pair explored and worked on multiple nesting locations.
The Raptor Resource Project (RRP) installed cameras near both N5 and N6 while the eagles were deciding where to settle. By early December 2025, HD and HM2 had adopted N6, and the new Decorah Eagle Cam was brought online ahead of egg laying in February 2026.
What to Watch for on the Decorah Eagle Cam
The Decorah Eagle Cam can be active even outside the egg and eaglet stages of the nesting season. HD and HM2 may return to N6 to perch, inspect the nest, defend their territory, or begin moving sticks and nesting material as another breeding season approaches.
Activity often comes in bursts. Long quiet stretches can be followed by an eagle arrival, vocal exchange, food delivery, territorial encounter, or sudden round of nest work. Early morning and late afternoon can be especially interesting times to check the cam, although eagle activity can occur throughout the day.
Decorah Eagle Nesting Season Timeline
- Fall: pair bonding, territory defense, and increasing nest work may begin.
- Winter: nest preparation and courtship become more intense as breeding season approaches.
- February: HD and HM2 laid their two 2026 eggs on February 17 and February 21.
- Late March: DH3 and DH4 hatched on March 27 and March 29.
- Spring: eaglets grow rapidly while the adults deliver food and protect the nest.
- Early summer: young eagles begin branching, exercising their wings, and preparing for first flight.
- Post-fledge: juveniles remain around the territory while improving their flight and feeding skills before eventually dispersing.

Hi Ellie, Night, take care, sweet dreams….
Good night BB.
Good afternoon. I am pooped. I am not working tomorrow.
Why not? I thought you liked to work?
I do like to work but just 2 days a week.😂
🤣👍
😇
Did you in, huh? are you off saturday too?
I am working Sat. We have about 400 boxes to get ready to mail.
😩
Hi Becki, good for you – will it be a long weekend?. Enjoy! Oops, I see below you are working Saturday, bummer.
Coffee time, it was cold & windy. DB & me are going to lunch and visit M&Ds cemetery next week for Christmas. I got a noble blanket spray for their grave, i will add greens & decos and make it pretty. Got a wreathe for my door too and will deco also. Legs were good til about 2pm, now all i want to do is sit. Made a pork loin in crock pot with applesauce.
It’ll be nice to see DB. Your grave blanket will be pretty. Ever get your curtains ironed?
Hi Tracy, yes did that mon or tues. What are you up to? Bowl today?
No bowling for me. It’s “positions” night and substitutes don’t bowl position. I haven’t done anything all day. My step granddaughter is having her 2nd body surgery today. Been in the operating room since 8:00 AM and won’t be out until 6:00 PM. CRAZY!!!!
what is body surgery?
Ta-ta’s. Liposuction. Thigh lift. Tummy tuck.
😮
Second surgery. It’s a redo from the first surgery. She got pregnant and thinks she ruined her body. Nothing was ever wrong with her body in the first place. She’s a beautiful young lady.
😯
Prayers🙏
Hi Tracy, wow, that is a long time to be in surgery. I hope all goes well, she will be sore for the next few days.
Yes she will be sore. 2nd surgery like this. It definitely was not needed. Makes me sad that she thought she needed anything done.
I’m glad you got those curtains done.
it does sound pretty…but some cemeteries, probably a lot of them, don’t allow them..at ours (my DH is the pres of it), it’s not allowed because it kills the grass and people don’t even come back to get them…it’s all volunteer there and the mowers don’t pick things like that up..maybe that cemetery allows them though. I know they look nice.
No worries Lynn, they are allowed. It is a huge cemetery, beautifully landscaped, with big ground crew to keep it that way, and remove them before spring
Good that you and DB are visiting the cemetary. Hope your legs are better. Pork loin sounds yummy.
I am glad you and your brother are going to the cemetery. Oh those blanket sprays will loos so nice on the graves.
Good day, Decorah!
Lots of branches for our future eaglets to climb and explore… Sweet!
Hi ML, yep, good branching tree
😘
Hi ML, nice picture, sweet 💕
Hope you’re staying high & dry, saw ALL the flood happening in WA state, on the news, yikes!
🤗

😍
Thanks, love that video
I’m glad, quite long and pretty birds.
Hi, still decorating but taking a break. I have a load of laundry in the dryer that will soon be done. Dennis will fold. I made a pumpkin pie and the house smells wonderful. Added water to the birdbath and filled the feeders. Lately I get moving around 3 p.m. I get a lot of accomplished in 2 hours or so. Back to decorating. Hope all are doing well and Ardyth is enjoying her birthday.
How did you train Dennis to fold laundry?
😂
LOL! When I would work Saturdays (every other) he would do the laundry. He is an Eagle Scout so he may have earned a merit badge 😄 I let him match his socks, I will do mine. I’m thankful for his help. He also runs the vacuum and does dishes. He can cook also. If I left he wouldn’t miss me!!😂
Wow. My DH was not an Eagle Scout. Never thought to look for that when I was husband hunting. 🤣. It’s nice Dennis does all that but I’m sure HE WOULD miss you.
Good job Ellie
