- Egg #1: HM2 laid the first egg on February 17, 2026, at about 6:33 p.m. CT.
- Egg #2: HM2 laid the second egg on February 21 at about 5:03 p.m. CT.
- DH3 hatched: March 27 at about 7:01 a.m. CT.
- DH4 hatched: March 29, giving HD and HM2 two eaglets at Nest N6.
- Both eaglets fledged: June 18. DH4 left the nest at about 5:45 a.m., while DH3 also fledged later that day.
- DH3: was later admitted to SOAR with a soft-tissue wing injury. The latest official update reported no wing or leg fractures, very low blood lead levels, weight gain, and continued rehabilitation in a flight pen.
- DH4: was last seen or heard on the morning of July 28. RRP noted that her increasingly long absences were consistent with the wider ranging young eagles often show before dispersal, although her exact location was unknown.
About the Decorah Eagles
The current adult pair at the Decorah Fish Hatchery is HD (Hatchery Dad) and HM2 (Hatchery Mom II). HD has occupied and defended the hatchery territory for years. HM2 became his mate after the loss of Hatchery Mom (HM), beginning another chapter in the long history of bald eagles nesting around the Decorah trout hatchery.
HD and HM2 spent much of 2025 strengthening their pair bond and working on potential nest sites. By late 2025, the pair had clearly adopted Nest N6, setting the stage for their successful 2026 nesting season.
Decorah Nest N6
N6 is the sixth nest associated with the chain of Decorah Hatchery Eagles. It sits near the Decorah Fish Hatchery and became the primary nest for HD and HM2 after the pair explored and worked on multiple nesting locations.
The Raptor Resource Project (RRP) installed cameras near both N5 and N6 while the eagles were deciding where to settle. By early December 2025, HD and HM2 had adopted N6, and the new Decorah Eagle Cam was brought online ahead of egg laying in February 2026.
What to Watch for on the Decorah Eagle Cam
The Decorah Eagle Cam can be active even outside the egg and eaglet stages of the nesting season. HD and HM2 may return to N6 to perch, inspect the nest, defend their territory, or begin moving sticks and nesting material as another breeding season approaches.
Activity often comes in bursts. Long quiet stretches can be followed by an eagle arrival, vocal exchange, food delivery, territorial encounter, or sudden round of nest work. Early morning and late afternoon can be especially interesting times to check the cam, although eagle activity can occur throughout the day.
Decorah Eagle Nesting Season Timeline
- Fall: pair bonding, territory defense, and increasing nest work may begin.
- Winter: nest preparation and courtship become more intense as breeding season approaches.
- February: HD and HM2 laid their two 2026 eggs on February 17 and February 21.
- Late March: DH3 and DH4 hatched on March 27 and March 29.
- Spring: eaglets grow rapidly while the adults deliver food and protect the nest.
- Early summer: young eagles begin branching, exercising their wings, and preparing for first flight.
- Post-fledge: juveniles remain around the territory while improving their flight and feeding skills before eventually dispersing.

Morning Ellie. We are going to have pizza too. We will watch the Eagles and then the Packers. The Packers game should be a good one. They are playing the Bears at Soldier Field.
Hi Becki, hate to say it but I like both teams. Hope for your sake and the other Packer fans that they win. For me, it’s GO BIRDS!!!

Good evening everyone! It was 56 degrees at 9 am today, it is now 34 degrees and very windy – gusts to 50 mph. Got my pretzel kisses done (miniature pretzels, hershey kisses and M&Ms) I think I have 20 dozen. They are a bit labor intensive but will use as gifts. Tomorrow I will do cookies. Probably chocolate chip and cranberry oatmeal. I need more hershey kisses to make peanut butter kisses. Most baking I’ve done in years. May do cupcakes for our neighbors, I still have some shopping to do. Also need to clean. I hope everyone is… Read more »
Hi Ellie, happy baking, yum, yum!
I usually make those but all I have made is batches of CHEX MIX
I love homemade chex mix. i used to make it but haven’t done any in years.
Sounds delicious. I’m so jealous of the people who get those treats from you.
Hi Tracy, they are so good to us. Our son and daughter in law keep thinking we should move, but that ship has sailed with how high housing prices and mortgage rates are. We would do better to make changes here than look elsewhere. I told Kevin we could put a tiny house in their back yard!! LOL!
I love those tiny houses. They are so cute but I have too many cats and a DH who snores!!! Lol
So yesterday I finally left the house. I dogsat and took Holly on a short walk. It was too cold to go very far. DH, mom and I just got back from a fish fry. It’s windy and cold and I am FULL. Will probably do a grocery pick up from Walmart tomorrow. So that will be 3 days in a row leaving the house. Then I’ll be tucked back in for awhile (hopefully).
Hi Tracy! We went to Dunkin this morning and then for lunch. I’m with you, once I am home I don’t like going out at night. Temps will be chilly but not too bad over the weekend. I tried the grocery pick up during Covid but haven’t used it since then. Some things I like to be in the store to look at.
Same here I like going to the stores
Lucky you Dunkin twice. We don’t have one of those here. I tend to buy more if I go in the store and so far everything I’ve gotten has been good and no mistakes. I probably jinxed myself by saying that. I’m especially trying to stay away from people this time of year. Don’t want to be sick for Christmas. My mom prefers to go in the store and shop.
Didn’t write that right. Dunkin then to the diner for lunch!! Although I have done Dunkin 2X in a day when a good friend goes later in the morning or early afternoon. 😃
😂👍
How old is your Mom?
75
Same as me/ Guess I could be your Mom.😁
Ok sounds good to me. Wanted to be adopted by your family.
Hi Tracy, Yummy fish fry~Nice, stay in and stay warm.
Very warm in here with the fireplace but it’s a pita dealing with the wood and the mess.
Yum on the fish fry
Yes it was very good and nice not to have to cook but I ate way too much.
Hi Tracy. What are you doing for Christmas?
Mom and I are cooking all the food. We will eat at moms.
Will it just be the 3 of you?
Yes plus Holly (the dog).
I am home having coffee.
Great picture. Enjoy that coffee.
Ewww, temps are plunging rapidly and its so windy, another night to wonder if power will go out.
I sure hope not. 🤞
Sure hope it doesnt!
Take care, stay safe and warm too.
