- Both eaglets fledged: June 18. DH4 left the nest at about 5:45 a.m., while DH3 also fledged later that day.

About the Decorah Eagles
The current adult pair at the Decorah Fish Hatchery is HD (Hatchery Dad) and HM2 (Hatchery Mom II). HD has occupied and defended the hatchery territory for years. HM2 became his mate after the loss of Hatchery Mom (HM), beginning another chapter in the long history of bald eagles nesting around the Decorah trout hatchery.
HD and HM2 spent much of 2025 strengthening their pair bond and working on potential nest sites. By late 2025, the pair had clearly adopted Nest N6, setting the stage for their successful 2026 nesting season.
Decorah Nest N6
N6 is the sixth nest associated with the chain of Decorah Hatchery Eagles. It sits near the Decorah Fish Hatchery and became the primary nest for HD and HM2 after the pair explored and worked on multiple nesting locations.
The Raptor Resource Project (RRP) installed cameras near both N5 and N6 while the eagles were deciding where to settle. By early December 2025, HD and HM2 had adopted N6, and the new Decorah Eagle Cam was brought online ahead of egg laying in February 2026.
What to Watch for on the Decorah Eagle Cam
The Decorah Eagle Cam can be active even outside the egg and eaglet stages of the nesting season. HD and HM2 may return to N6 to perch, inspect the nest, defend their territory, or begin moving sticks and nesting material as another breeding season approaches.
Activity often comes in bursts. Long quiet stretches can be followed by an eagle arrival, vocal exchange, food delivery, territorial encounter, or sudden round of nest work. Early morning and late afternoon can be especially interesting times to check the cam, although eagle activity can occur throughout the day.
Decorah Eagle Nesting Season Timeline
- Fall: pair bonding, territory defense, and increasing nest work may begin.
- Winter: nest preparation and courtship become more intense as breeding season approaches.
- February: HD and HM2 laid their two 2026 eggs on February 17 and February 21.
- Late March: DH3 and DH4 hatched on March 27 and March 29.
- Spring: eaglets grow rapidly while the adults deliver food and protect the nest.
- Early summer: young eagles begin branching, exercising their wings, and preparing for first flight.
- Post-fledge: juveniles remain around the territory while improving their flight and feeding skills before eventually dispersing.

Nite Ardyth, sleep well…..
Tomorrow will be fun for us. I was going to do the Turkey Tot 1 mile run but at race time it will feel like 15 degrees. That would not be fun for me. The family will be together for lunch.
I hope your TDay lunch is good. I think we will all be watching football.
Over the weekend DH started complaining that his hip was hurting. He went to the ortho Dr yesterday and they xrayed it. Dr said it looks pretty good and a shot should fix him up. It is feeling better already thankfully.
Hi Becki, nice DH feels better, have a good day tomorrow!
Hi Bons. Will be with all the family tomorrow.😀 Crazy but fun.
great for him (and you)
I was thinking that but didn’t want to say it and sound unsympathetic.🙄 He is a terrible patient.
So what’s wrong? Arthritis? My DH is really suffering and they never gave him a shot.
DH said they said bursitis. What did they tell your DH? Does he need a hip replacement?
Just that he has arthritis after he had the x-ray. Nothing else.
He should ask if a cortisone shot would help.
Have the eagles been around today? I saw 2 bald eagles today when I was crossing the MS. Made my day.
Earlier i had coffee from the coffee shop, i dont need more now, im wired. our 63 degrees will be gone soon and tomorrow will be cold and windy. I had a bad night and no oomph so instead of cleaning, i got some food for tomorrow, then bought my ticket for the Cmas house tour. Found food that Mo likes, to my surprise its dry food Chewys sent me by mistake. Who knew?
HI Joyce. I am having coffee and cranberrie orange muffins You will get tomorrow what we have today. We have had gusts over 50mph. What is the Cmas house tour? Silly Mo. At least you found something he will eat. We did the same with Sammi, dry food with broth on it.
Dry food is so much easier that canned, it doesnt get all crusty. You know what a house tour is, this one the houses will be decorated for Cmas. So far think 10 ladies will meet at a neighbors, when its over she is having snacks and a favorite things gift exchange, the Garden club sponsors it
Of course I know what a house tour is.😀 I thought maybe these were special. Well I guess they must be special if they are on the tour. Here they have different kinds of house tours. Historical houses, river houses.
Divine intervention? Glad Mo likes the food
I thought maybe you might go to your brothers?
The clouds look cold!!!
Yes, they look mean!
The clouds are very cold here. The wind is just terrible.
Hi Tracy, take care, stay warm. hope you don’t need to go outside.
Happy Turkey Day.
