- DH4 hatched: March 29, giving HD and HM2 two eaglets at Nest N6.
- Both eaglets fledged: June 18. DH4 left the nest at about 5:45 a.m., while DH3 also fledged later that day.
- DH3: was later admitted to SOAR with a soft-tissue wing injury. The latest official update reported no wing or leg fractures, very low blood lead levels, weight gain, and continued rehabilitation in a flight pen.

About the Decorah Eagles
The current adult pair at the Decorah Fish Hatchery is HD (Hatchery Dad) and HM2 (Hatchery Mom II). HD has occupied and defended the hatchery territory for years. HM2 became his mate after the loss of Hatchery Mom (HM), beginning another chapter in the long history of bald eagles nesting around the Decorah trout hatchery.
HD and HM2 spent much of 2025 strengthening their pair bond and working on potential nest sites. By late 2025, the pair had clearly adopted Nest N6, setting the stage for their successful 2026 nesting season.
Decorah Nest N6
N6 is the sixth nest associated with the chain of Decorah Hatchery Eagles. It sits near the Decorah Fish Hatchery and became the primary nest for HD and HM2 after the pair explored and worked on multiple nesting locations.
The Raptor Resource Project (RRP) installed cameras near both N5 and N6 while the eagles were deciding where to settle. By early December 2025, HD and HM2 had adopted N6, and the new Decorah Eagle Cam was brought online ahead of egg laying in February 2026.
What to Watch for on the Decorah Eagle Cam
The Decorah Eagle Cam can be active even outside the egg and eaglet stages of the nesting season. HD and HM2 may return to N6 to perch, inspect the nest, defend their territory, or begin moving sticks and nesting material as another breeding season approaches.
Activity often comes in bursts. Long quiet stretches can be followed by an eagle arrival, vocal exchange, food delivery, territorial encounter, or sudden round of nest work. Early morning and late afternoon can be especially interesting times to check the cam, although eagle activity can occur throughout the day.
Decorah Eagle Nesting Season Timeline
- Fall: pair bonding, territory defense, and increasing nest work may begin.
- Winter: nest preparation and courtship become more intense as breeding season approaches.
- February: HD and HM2 laid their two 2026 eggs on February 17 and February 21.
- Late March: DH3 and DH4 hatched on March 27 and March 29.
- Spring: eaglets grow rapidly while the adults deliver food and protect the nest.
- Early summer: young eagles begin branching, exercising their wings, and preparing for first flight.
- Post-fledge: juveniles remain around the territory while improving their flight and feeding skills before eventually dispersing.

What happened to DH3?
DH3 fledged on June 18, 2026, but was later found needing help and admitted to Saving Our Avian Resources (SOAR). DH4 successfully fledged on June 18 and continued exploring the Decorah area afterward. She was last seen or heard on the morning of July 28. Good luck at Walmart. The humidity just zaps all my strength.
We will be in 80s but humidy is real high now. Does ZAP ya
It’s miserably humid here….dew point is over 80 degrees. Hopefully will start to drop later today. Good morning

Morning Carrie. We should be better tomorrow. Are you and Rog having a nice summer?
We are. Our friends from FL are in town for the month so it’s been constantly going. Love having them here but always enjoy a quieter August after they leave. How are you guys?
Nothing special going on here but we are doing good.
It will start getting hot here.

Hi Becki
😀
Good Morning. Going to be another hot sticky here. It is already 79 and feels like 86. Today is a work day for me.
feels like 94 here already. UGH
Morning, take care, stay cool, hope the work day goes well.
Hello everyone. DH, mom and I went to a fair about 45 minutes from Bad Axe. Our favorite food vendors were there plus I got my deep fried Twinkie. It was a nice day. We could get some storms. We are planning to go back to that fair tomorrow unless the weather and or wildfire smoke is bad.
Good Evening, Hope you can go back to the Fair tomorrow, Enjoy!
The County fair will be in town next weekend. Hope to see pictures on the news.
I know I won’t be going. I sure enjoyed them back in the day.
They are getting very expensive. And they have changed a lot over the years. Of course everything is more fun when you’re younger.
no doubt it would cost more. Had more energy just 10 years ago, last time I went ~ late 60’s….
We went every year, but haven’t been in a really long time. That included the state fair too.
Sounds like a lot of fun Tracy! Hope you get to go again tomorrow.
Hi Tracy! Sounds like a nice day. My brother loved going to a big festival called Musikfest in Bethlehem and also the Allentown Fair every summer. He would go to certain stands – Take a Taco, Aw Shucks Corn, Mr. Bills Poultry were favorites. Musikfest was a 10 day festival with lots of free music and headline groups in the evening that you do pay for. Lots of walking involved which would be harder to do now. What’s a deep fried Twinkie taste like? I loved regular T’s as a kid.
Those are great memories of your brother. Glad to hear he enjoyed festivals and fairs. They have people on golf carts that’ll give free rides back and forth to your vehicle or barns or wherever you want to go. Tried to tip him and they refuse tips. The Twinkie is covered with a batter then deep friend and powdered sugar on it. They’ll also do different toppings but I just get the plain one. I should try the chocolate or strawberry topping. It makes them warm and gooey inside. Delicious.
That sounds fun. What all food did you eat?
Gibbys footlong and Gibbys french fries and deep fried Twinkie and root beer and caramel popcorn.
Glad you ate well at the fair. Never had a fried twinkie
we just go to the small 4H fair here…I get a lemon shakeup and look at the animals and crafts, DH likes the tractor pull.
Don’t ever try one. They are soooo good. I wish I could go back in time and never ate one.
Good Evening, had another Hot day 98° the clouds came, no rain, made it cooler tho.

Hi Becki, hope you can “perk up”. Hard to eat with that kind of weather. Our weather is still nice today.
