- Egg #1: HM2 laid the first egg on February 17, 2026, at about 6:33 p.m. CT.
- Egg #2: HM2 laid the second egg on February 21 at about 5:03 p.m. CT.
- DH3 hatched: March 27 at about 7:01 a.m. CT.
- DH4 hatched: March 29, giving HD and HM2 two eaglets at Nest N6.
- Both eaglets fledged: June 18. DH4 left the nest at about 5:45 a.m., while DH3 also fledged later that day.
- DH3: was later admitted to SOAR with a soft-tissue wing injury. The latest official update reported no wing or leg fractures, very low blood lead levels, weight gain, and continued rehabilitation in a flight pen.
- DH4: was last seen or heard on the morning of July 28. RRP noted that her increasingly long absences were consistent with the wider ranging young eagles often show before dispersal, although her exact location was unknown.
About the Decorah Eagles
The current adult pair at the Decorah Fish Hatchery is HD (Hatchery Dad) and HM2 (Hatchery Mom II). HD has occupied and defended the hatchery territory for years. HM2 became his mate after the loss of Hatchery Mom (HM), beginning another chapter in the long history of bald eagles nesting around the Decorah trout hatchery.
HD and HM2 spent much of 2025 strengthening their pair bond and working on potential nest sites. By late 2025, the pair had clearly adopted Nest N6, setting the stage for their successful 2026 nesting season.
Decorah Nest N6
N6 is the sixth nest associated with the chain of Decorah Hatchery Eagles. It sits near the Decorah Fish Hatchery and became the primary nest for HD and HM2 after the pair explored and worked on multiple nesting locations.
The Raptor Resource Project (RRP) installed cameras near both N5 and N6 while the eagles were deciding where to settle. By early December 2025, HD and HM2 had adopted N6, and the new Decorah Eagle Cam was brought online ahead of egg laying in February 2026.
What to Watch for on the Decorah Eagle Cam
The Decorah Eagle Cam can be active even outside the egg and eaglet stages of the nesting season. HD and HM2 may return to N6 to perch, inspect the nest, defend their territory, or begin moving sticks and nesting material as another breeding season approaches.
Activity often comes in bursts. Long quiet stretches can be followed by an eagle arrival, vocal exchange, food delivery, territorial encounter, or sudden round of nest work. Early morning and late afternoon can be especially interesting times to check the cam, although eagle activity can occur throughout the day.
Decorah Eagle Nesting Season Timeline
- Fall: pair bonding, territory defense, and increasing nest work may begin.
- Winter: nest preparation and courtship become more intense as breeding season approaches.
- February: HD and HM2 laid their two 2026 eggs on February 17 and February 21.
- Late March: DH3 and DH4 hatched on March 27 and March 29.
- Spring: eaglets grow rapidly while the adults deliver food and protect the nest.
- Early summer: young eagles begin branching, exercising their wings, and preparing for first flight.
- Post-fledge: juveniles remain around the territory while improving their flight and feeding skills before eventually dispersing.

What happened to DH3?
DH3 fledged on June 18, 2026, but was later found needing help and admitted to Saving Our Avian Resources (SOAR). Roger went out when i got up….early…..I kept hearing a cat and looked out a couple ties thinking it was Roger. Then i discovered Michi under the kitchen sink in the bucket with dishtowels!!! She did that as a kitten and we could never find her!!!
i remember you telling us that long time ago
And she still does it….lol silly kitty
Welcome home Ardyth!! Do you think Michi was mad because you had been away? I’m sure Nikki was glad to see you, Rick too! Nothing like your own bed after being away. Enjoy!
She couldnt care less about me. Katrina was my cat and she would miss me.
No she wasnt mad –she crawls in there when Rick opens the doors under the sink w/o him knowing it. She has done this since she was a kitten and we would panic trying to find her
She is so cute.
Good morning Ardy, did you have a nice trip?
Wonderful!!! saw all kinds of wildlife, went to the SPAM museum …again!!! Went to Duluth and all around…so enjoyed their lake view

Morning all, will bee a nice day. Weve had a rough morning, middle of night had a potty call. Mo was crying and i couldnt find her, then i saw she was completely under the futon and stuck! I tried everything, even coaxing with roast beef, so at 4am called police. 2 very nice officers came, lifted the futon and i pulled Mo out😁How did that happen? I was exhausted and fell asleep early, even with the noise from the beach. I heard nada, so i may never know. She seems OK, but didnt eat, shes been sleeping since
Hi Joyce
Oh my goodness….Poor Mo
Good call calling the police!!!
They were still on duty from night before. Ive never seen her lay under there before, stange.
Yes it is weird…..glad they were able to help
wonder how long she was stuck?
I wonder!!
Hi Joyce, what a way (early) to start the day. I wonder what scared Mo. Glad the police came and helped you. Of course she’s sleeping now! Take care, hope you have a good day.
Hi Ellie. Crazy, just crazy. Have a good weekend. Canoe Canival tonight
Morning Joyce, poor Mo. She’s ok?
Poor Mo.
Raining here. It is really coming down. Has been off and on all day, and will get more overnight and tomorrow.
Send some here. My area is heading for a drought.
So far 2 inches here. Wish I could send it your way.
Fever plays at 10:00 my time on ION.
I will be watching. Hope I can stay awake to the end.
Good. I’m going to try to watch it all.
I watched the whole game. It was good.
I’m watching.
It was a good game.
Yes it was! How are things going. Let’s see. Drought, fire, smoke. Heat? You have it all?
Yes we do have all that but things are going good. It’s not as smoky.
Well that part is good. At least that is something. Do you have adequate AC to stay comfortable inside?
Somewhat. We have a portable that sits on the floor and blows the hot air out the front screen door. It cools the area around it. The fever play tomorrow at 1:00 my time on ABC.
Oh dear, that doesn’t sound like near enough for this hot weather.
It’s better than nothing
Are you watching the Fever on ION? Playing now.
Yes
We have had off and on rain today too.
What have you been up to lately?
No good.
😂
Apparently it is so. I was talking about the things a stroke victim wants to do the most and bathroom on your own was the 2nd priority. I said something about the first time I had a man…. you can guess what they turned that into! 😩🤣. I was talking about a male nurse and a bedside toilet!
Oh my Debbie. You really got yourself in trouble with that one. How funny. 🤣
I know. Sigh. I’m really good at getting into trouble. I should have a PhD in it.
😂
No e4 today :(
It has been 3 or 4 days ago. He may be gone. 😢
I checked in some when i was gone and did see her……awe
He was here earlier this week.
Hi!!! I got my suitcase packed and everything put away. I washed all my dirty clothes for nine days and towels too.
I never did sleep after I got home this morning. Hope I sleep good tonight.
Did you have to throw out the fish?
No, they werent frozen of course but they were still cold so we threw them in the freezer.
They will taste good when Rick grills them.
he will pan fry them
Yum. Will he put any breading on them?
just salt and pepper and flour
That is how mom did it when we went fishing
Hi Ardyth, Wow, you were busy today, no sleep, I’m impressed.
Hope you sleep well ~ with sweet dreams tonight. 🤗
Have a good weekend.
I always get right to it when i get home, now its done!! Next week, clean the house.
Hope you can sleep and your RLS doesn’t bother you.
I didnt have my meds and the cream that helps was in my suitcase where it had to be.
I do have things to help me at home….It was awful in the airport and plane
