About the Decorah Eagles
The current adult pair at the Decorah Fish Hatchery is HD (Hatchery Dad) and HM2 (Hatchery Mom II). HD has occupied and defended the hatchery territory for years. HM2 became his mate after the loss of Hatchery Mom (HM), beginning another chapter in the long history of bald eagles nesting around the Decorah trout hatchery.
HD and HM2 spent much of 2025 strengthening their pair bond and working on potential nest sites. By late 2025, the pair had clearly adopted Nest N6, setting the stage for their successful 2026 nesting season.
Decorah Nest N6
N6 is the sixth nest associated with the chain of Decorah Hatchery Eagles. It sits near the Decorah Fish Hatchery and became the primary nest for HD and HM2 after the pair explored and worked on multiple nesting locations.
The Raptor Resource Project (RRP) installed cameras near both N5 and N6 while the eagles were deciding where to settle. By early December 2025, HD and HM2 had adopted N6, and the new Decorah Eagle Cam was brought online ahead of egg laying in February 2026.
What to Watch for on the Decorah Eagle Cam
The Decorah Eagle Cam can be active even outside the egg and eaglet stages of the nesting season. HD and HM2 may return to N6 to perch, inspect the nest, defend their territory, or begin moving sticks and nesting material as another breeding season approaches.
Activity often comes in bursts. Long quiet stretches can be followed by an eagle arrival, vocal exchange, food delivery, territorial encounter, or sudden round of nest work. Early morning and late afternoon can be especially interesting times to check the cam, although eagle activity can occur throughout the day.
Decorah Eagle Nesting Season Timeline
- Fall: pair bonding, territory defense, and increasing nest work may begin.
- Winter: nest preparation and courtship become more intense as breeding season approaches.
- February: HD and HM2 laid their two 2026 eggs on February 17 and February 21.
- Late March: DH3 and DH4 hatched on March 27 and March 29.
- Spring: eaglets grow rapidly while the adults deliver food and protect the nest.
- Early summer: young eagles begin branching, exercising their wings, and preparing for first flight.
- Post-fledge: juveniles remain around the territory while improving their flight and feeding skills before eventually dispersing.

How cold is it?
Hi Joyce! Are you getting any snow? I saw on weather that south and central Jersey was getting some. Enjoy the coffee before the walk.
Morning . You make me laugh! Kids will ride bikes when they can. No bikers here. Everyone takes the bus. You need permission to walk with an adult. At least they are getting exercise. What age. Elem? Middle? HS?
Our 2 elem schools dont have bus transportation, so they ride bikes or parent drop them off, thats why i complain about traffic. HS has a bus
here they are and poof they left

Good morning,TGIF i wont tell you all out west how cold it is, you sent it to me. 😖 I saw Tracy cat so i fed her, poor kitty. Asked my young neighbor if he would help get things down from attic, and he said he would, so hope to get tree up this weekend, its prelit and half the lights went out, so i got a new string to doctor it up. Happy the Lions won last night.
Good morning The Christmas tree is a disaster this year!!! He put the branches on it the other day and I didnt notice they were wrong because I honestly didnt pay any attention to it. He puts it together every year so I can’t believe he didnt notice. I made him mad because I wasnt happy that it was put together wrong. I always have turned the tree lights on early when I get up and enjoy them. Well, we only had enough colored lights that worked on the top of the tree and clear lights on the bottom part… Read more »

I never knew they would be so bright!!!!

You need the soft lights.
My neighbor has a live tree and still uses those large C-9 bulbs.
Oh Ardyth, so sorry, hoping Rick will change his mind and “make it right”. The Christmas tree lights are my favorite, it just gives the room a wonderful ambiance. Good luck…
He offered but its already decorated and I dont want to go through that again…..we’ll just have an ugly tree this year.
you are right!!
Maybe after Christmas you can get a new one on sale. This almost looks like a Charley Brown tree.🙄
Those LED lights i don’t like either. Too bright. I turn my light on when I get up too.
Well I guess you have a special tree this year.
Poor kitty. Do you only see her in the morning? Have you asked any of your neighbors if they see her during the day?
