- Egg #1: HM2 laid the first egg on February 17, 2026, at about 6:33 p.m. CT.
- Egg #2: HM2 laid the second egg on February 21 at about 5:03 p.m. CT.
- DH3 hatched: March 27 at about 7:01 a.m. CT.
- DH4 hatched: March 29, giving HD and HM2 two eaglets at Nest N6.
- Both eaglets fledged: June 18. DH4 left the nest at about 5:45 a.m., while DH3 also fledged later that day.
- DH3: was later admitted to SOAR with a soft-tissue wing injury. The latest official update reported no wing or leg fractures, very low blood lead levels, weight gain, and continued rehabilitation in a flight pen.
- DH4: was last seen or heard on the morning of July 28. RRP noted that her increasingly long absences were consistent with the wider ranging young eagles often show before dispersal, although her exact location was unknown.
About the Decorah Eagles
The current adult pair at the Decorah Fish Hatchery is HD (Hatchery Dad) and HM2 (Hatchery Mom II). HD has occupied and defended the hatchery territory for years. HM2 became his mate after the loss of Hatchery Mom (HM), beginning another chapter in the long history of bald eagles nesting around the Decorah trout hatchery.
HD and HM2 spent much of 2025 strengthening their pair bond and working on potential nest sites. By late 2025, the pair had clearly adopted Nest N6, setting the stage for their successful 2026 nesting season.
Decorah Nest N6
N6 is the sixth nest associated with the chain of Decorah Hatchery Eagles. It sits near the Decorah Fish Hatchery and became the primary nest for HD and HM2 after the pair explored and worked on multiple nesting locations.
The Raptor Resource Project (RRP) installed cameras near both N5 and N6 while the eagles were deciding where to settle. By early December 2025, HD and HM2 had adopted N6, and the new Decorah Eagle Cam was brought online ahead of egg laying in February 2026.
What to Watch for on the Decorah Eagle Cam
The Decorah Eagle Cam can be active even outside the egg and eaglet stages of the nesting season. HD and HM2 may return to N6 to perch, inspect the nest, defend their territory, or begin moving sticks and nesting material as another breeding season approaches.
Activity often comes in bursts. Long quiet stretches can be followed by an eagle arrival, vocal exchange, food delivery, territorial encounter, or sudden round of nest work. Early morning and late afternoon can be especially interesting times to check the cam, although eagle activity can occur throughout the day.
Decorah Eagle Nesting Season Timeline
- Fall: pair bonding, territory defense, and increasing nest work may begin.
- Winter: nest preparation and courtship become more intense as breeding season approaches.
- February: HD and HM2 laid their two 2026 eggs on February 17 and February 21.
- Late March: DH3 and DH4 hatched on March 27 and March 29.
- Spring: eaglets grow rapidly while the adults deliver food and protect the nest.
- Early summer: young eagles begin branching, exercising their wings, and preparing for first flight.
- Post-fledge: juveniles remain around the territory while improving their flight and feeding skills before eventually dispersing.

My nephew has a chocolate lab that is 5 or 6 years old and had been having diahrrea and throwing up and just not acting right so they took her to the vet. They have been trying different meds, done blood tests, xrays and ultrasound and so far nothing. She is still the same so they are taking her in today and tomorrow they are doing a colonoscopy and a scope down the throat. I have never heard of this for a dog. I can’t imagine what their Vet bills must be.🙄
Awww. Poor pup. Hope they.find the cause soon. I can’t imagine either, but DBs vet bill when.Colby.was sick and passed was $6000.
Good afternoon all. Have a meatloaf in the oven, will have boiled potatoes and broccoli. Have strawberries and pound cake for dessert. I have a question. A friend of mine just adopted 2 young cats. She posted on FB that they are very good, but she is talking about letting them out. Her area is partially wooded and right next to a busy roadway. Up until recently she only had dogs. I would like to ask her to reconsider letting the cats outside. I have always had my cats indoors and understand when people let them out and why. The… Read more »
Hi Ellie. We are having leftover meatloaf and mashed potatoes for dinner. Nothing for dessert but your desserts sounds wonderful. Will there be whipped cream on top?
RE: your friend and her cats. I have never had cats but if it were me I would not let them out. I don’t know if there is a delicate way to say that. Maybe you could say you never let your cats. You would be speaking from experience.
Sounds good Ellie
Tell her your concerns about the.highway, maybe it will make her think twice. Not a good idea i agree
Morning. Dog pooped in the crate. One load in the washer. I need to clean the tray, but needed coffee. So here I am.
I wake up so tired and keep looking at the clock. Hair looks like a brillo pad.
Rained last night and raining this am. Gloomy out, sorta like my mood.
Oh Fran!!! Nikki was outside and came in. I went to the bathroom, didnt take long, and when I came out Nikki had pooped on the kitchen tile!! What’s up with that????
oh No,
🙄
It was raining before bedtime, so they didn’t go out. Should have let them stay up later till a break in the rain.
😪
Morning Fran, hope the day gets better for ya!
The “joys” of pet ownership. I miss having a cat (or 2) but don’t miss the litter box. Plus I’m afraid a new cat would get territorial and misbehave, but then again, maybe not….I also miss having a dog. I would get a senior pup if the circumstances provided for one.
Good Wednesday Morning, happy Mid-week 🍂🐫
Morning Bons.

Trying to keep Roger inside when its nighttime and early morning isnt easy.
We had this big beautiful Cooper’s Hawk hanging around yesterday.
Morning Ardy. Beautiful hawk. It does look really big. Does Roger usually stay out all night?
If we let him he would stay out all night. Rick tries to get him in before he goes to bed but he’s not always around. That’s when he gets into trouble I think because if he sees another cat he goes towards it. The vet said he had bite mark in chest from a cat
oh ouch for Roger, hope he starts coming inside for the night….
Good morning, the hawk is beautiful. Sorry Roger driving you nuts. I think this is very early for heat, but its cold.
Beautiful!
Thanks Linda
