Watch the Decorah North Eagle Cam live from the North Nest on private property just north of Decorah, Iowa. The Raptor Resource Project maintains the camera, providing a close look at bald eagle activity around the nest and North Valley.

The 2026 nesting season ended without a hatch. DNF laid one egg on March 7 after Mr. North disappeared in late February. However, the egg never hatched, and a visiting subadult broke it on April 18. Afterward, DNF and UM continued visiting and working on the nest.

Decorah North Nest History

2026

02/25/2026: Mr. North disappeared from the Decorah North territory. His fate remains unknown.

Soon after, on 03/07/2026, DNF laid her only egg of the season at about 6:35 PM CT.

By 03/24/2026, DNF continued incubating the egg while UM stayed around the territory but did not participate in incubation.

However, the egg never hatched. On 04/18/2026, a visiting subadult eagle dug it from the nest bowl and broke the shell, ending the 2026 nesting attempt.

Afterward, DNF and UM continued visiting the North Nest through spring and early summer, bringing grasses and sticks and working on the nest together.

2025

02/11/2025: DNF laid her first egg of the season at about 5:00 PM CT.

Three days later, on 02/14/2025, DNF laid her second egg at about 3:00 PM CT.

In March, the first eaglet died during a prolonged hatch attempt. Meanwhile, the second egg never hatched, leaving the North Nest without eaglets for the season.

2024

DNF and Mr. North successfully raised DN17 and DN18, and both eaglets fledged.

Later in 2024, heavy rain contributed to the failure of limbs supporting the nest. As a result, the Raptor Resource Project built a new nest in the same tree using a natural fork and a specially constructed support limb.

2023

02/20/2023: DNF laid her first egg at 8:46 PM.

However, the Norths’ lone egg broke on 03/21/2023 at around 3:00 PM.

2022

02/16/2022: DNF laid her first egg at 3:17 PM. Three days later, she laid her second egg at 4:15 PM.

DN15 hatched on 03/27/2022, followed by DN16 on 03/28/2022.

Later, DN15 fledged on 06/11/2022. DN16 followed on 06/19/2022.

2021

02/16/2021: DNF laid her first egg at 1:44 PM CT. Then, on 02/19/2021, she laid her second egg at 1:05 PM CT.

DN13 hatched on 03/25/2021, followed by DN14 on 03/27/2021.

Later, DN13 fledged on 06/11/2021, and DN14 fledged on 06/18/2021.

2020

02/21/2020: DNF laid her first egg. Three days later, she laid her second egg.

DN11 hatched on 03/30/2020, followed by DN12 on 03/31/2020.

Sadly, DN11 died on 04/10/2020. DN12 later fledged on 06/09/2020.

2019

02/21/2019: DNF laid her first egg. Three days later, she laid her second egg.

The first egg hatched on 03/31/2019, followed by the second on 04/01/2019.

Sadly, DN10 died shortly after hatch on 04/02/2019.

2018

02/25/2018: Mrs. North laid her first egg. However, that egg failed by 03/16/2018.

She began a second clutch on 04/12/2018 and laid another egg on 04/15/2018.

The first egg of the second clutch hatched on 05/18/2018, while the second hatched on 05/20/2018.

Sadly, both Decorah North eaglets died by 05/25/2018.

2017

Mrs. North laid three eggs on 02/19, 02/22, and 02/25/2017.

The first egg hatched on 03/29, followed by the second on 03/30 and the third on 04/02.

Sadly, DN6 died on 04/04/2017. Later, DN4 fledged on 06/11, and DN5 followed on 06/17.

2016

Mrs. North laid her first egg on 03/11/2016. Then, on 03/14, she laid her second egg as spring peepers called near the nest. Her third egg arrived on 03/18.

Hatching began on 04/17/2016. The second eaglet arrived on 04/19, followed by the third on 04/23.

Sadly, DN3 died on 05/11/2016, and DN2 died on 05/25. Finally, DN1 fledged on 07/09/2016.
