Meet M15 & F23

  • M15: Veteran provider & nest engineer; known for multiple fish deliveries/day in pre-lay.
  • F23: First egg of 2024 laid Nov 8; 2025 Nov 12th; in pre-lay periods she often eats on the nest and increases time in the nest tree.

How to Watch (Cam Tips)

  • Playback: Use the DVR bar to rewind ~12 hours.
  • Audio: Wind can mask vocalizations; try the 4K cam for clearer sound.
  • Behavior cues: Mantling over food, aerating, rolling eggs, “chortle” vocalizations.
  • Tip: For the best audio of chortles and wingbeats, use the 4K cam.
  • Local time: The nest operates on Eastern Time (ET).

Nest History & Notable Moments

  • Stick engineering: Watch M15 test & wedge branches to raise rails.
  • Food log: Tilapia, catfish heads, mullet—varies by season and water levels.
  • Visitor notes: Loggerhead shrike, anhinga, and the occasional raven fly-by.

FAQs

Q: When do SWFL eagles usually lay eggs?
A: Typically early–mid November, with hatch roughly 35 days later.

Q: Why is F23 eating on the nest?
A: In pre-lay, females often conserve energy and stay close to the bowl, so on-nest feeding increases.

Q: How can I tell who’s on the nest?
A: F23 is larger with a rounder head; M15 shows a slightly slimmer frame and often arrives with sticks or fish.

Q: Do you intervene?
A: No. These cams document wild eagles for education and research; intervention is not part of this project.

Q: Best times to watch?
A: Sunrise and late afternoon for deliveries and nest work; overnight for incubation shifts.

I guess I’m feeling blue about what is happening with Jackie at Big Valley. Then I got to thinking about F-23, and for some reason I wanted to come here, read again, feel all the love, caring, support from this eagle family, who shared together all the emotions of loosing our precious F-23. Do you realize it really hasn’t been a very long time since we lost Harriett? F was with us only 2 1/2 seasons, so we lost two Moms in a short time. So I read. I did feel the love that I needed. So my family here… Read more »

I’ve been torn up as well. I know we all have. Harriet, F-23… never forgotten. Now Jackie. I didn’t spend that much time at Big Valley but enough to get probably more emotionally involved than a lot of people think is wise. It’s who I am and I know this space is safe. There were videos shared showing how we missed signs of her weakening and likely ill. I choose to see her strong and healthy just as I do the other queens of the sky and nests…. Harriet, F-23 and Jackie…. fly high… 💖 See you soon M!

Blessings to you Tremals. Life goes on. We don’t know what M-15 is up to, but apparently Shadow has a female of interest. Don’t really know yet how it will play out. Now watch your heart. Easier said than done.

The cams at Pritchett usually come back up around October when the eagles begin nest building again. They do maintenance on the equipment over the summer.

That would be great. September will be here in no time. This summer has really flown by. It seems that every year goes by faster and faster.

Hopefully we can catch some photos taken by the ground photographers during the Summer/Fall. Androcat usually posts off and on during the off-season. Talons crossed. 🦅🤗

Thank you to the SWFL FARM for their continued dedication to this nest and family. The zoomies who control the cams and have watchful eyes on everything. To all who keep us updated when things don’t look so good you’re a crucial part of our understanding of nature. Tho you can’t truly make us understand you do help us accept what may be happening. GODS blessing on all of you for allowing the audience to be apart of this great learning experience. May peace find you all as we look forward to the fall and another nest of love with… Read more »
