Wildflower Owl Cam – Great Horned Owl Nest Cam

You are watching Great Horned Owls nesting. This nest is located at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas.

Great Horned Owls have been nesting here for more than 10 years. In 2023 Athena(Female) raised 2 owlets that fledged on May 25 2024. In 2024 she has laid 2 eggs with the first one being laid on March 1st 2024 and 2nd egg laid on March 5th. Great Horned Owls incubate their eggs for an average of 33 days before they hatch. You’re welcome Deborah. At least we have one that survived. Wonder if they will do an autopsy on the older one to see what the cause of death was. It looked healthy.

about the baby owls, btw thanks jerseygirl for the video, I wasn’t aware of this…so I went to YouTube to find out what happened, a couple days ago Athena had abandoned the nest bc both the owlets had died they believe due to dad not coming to feed them, so they also believe something happened to dad since he hasn’t been around

lo and behold one was alive

so sorry to read that one baby was lost. What Happened? I guess the cameras are down because i haven’t seen any feeds. Hope the 2nd little one is doing fine.

Athena, I am so sorry you lost one of your little ones. Our hearts go out to you. Please return you still have one strong little one that needs your love and affection to grow up to be just like you and it’s daddy. We all love and miss you.
