Hey! Lilly has only just returned! And they have already worked on it as I read below laugh

Probably not until the end of March. I think Lilly has to recover from her long flight from wherever she wintered.

Lovely, isn’t it?
I saw her very early this morning in the office. Directly after switching on, I first open a German radio station and second the Blick-ins-Nest site. 7 AM, and there she was love
Lilly must have returned early this morning because last night, there was only Freddy on the nest.
Everybody is happy that she returned safe & sound from her long trip to… Does anybody know where exactly Lilly spends the winter? Haven’t read anything about that, not here and not at the original German site…

No, I don’t. Have you asked over there?

Hi Jean,

found the Black Storks nest in Gemenc bigsmile via internet site of Storchen-Elke! As far as I remember, you have mentioned Storchen-Elke and know her website (www storchenelke de)

If you scroll down to the Schwarzstorch Webcams, you can easily identify it – this way because SPO doesn’t like it to post links…
But the nest still looks lost and untidy. Google Translate told me that this cam exists since 2013!

Hi BlueVirgin. I haven’t found the nest yet.

OK, I try with the link – it would be horrible having to type that, Hungarian really IS a foreign language hypnotize

Feketególyafészek-kamera

Right now, it is already dark but it seems to me that their cam gives a much sharper picture than the old one we saw here at SPO.
And there is no “change the language” button, not even to English. So, if you want to understand the text, you’ll have to use a translator.

Thank you so much, BlueVirgin. I have that site earmarked now. I mostly just like to watch and observe.

You’re welcome laugh
I liked this Black Storks nest so much and did not want to lose it. There is another one somewhere in Estonia which I found via the Looduskalender site – guess you know that also? – but the Hungarian nest is my favourite.

Regarding Lilly, I have asked the folks at Gögglingen directly but not received an answer yet. Might take a few days, but I can let you know if you like.

I see another white stork nest on here.

SPO: No more black stork nest or is it at another place?

2-25-19 It is nice to see that the nest has been cleaned up and prepared so wonderfully by the fire department. Freddy and Lilly will love to have a new family in this nest in the months to come.

2-16-19 13:11 (7:11 AM Eastern) It is the first time I have seen Freddy here. It appears that there is a silver band on its right leg which Freddy has. I did not capture it in this picture, but did see it. He was gone at 13:18. Now we just wait for dear Lilly to come back.

The camera on SPO is stuck or very slow. It says now 13:13 and it is 7:21 AM on my clock. SPO could you look into this camera? Thanks.

How exciting! I hope that I get to see Freddy and Lily. Isn’t it a little early for the storks to be returning to their nests?

Probably. Yes and no.
In my notes, the first one has returned:
2013 on March 3,
2014 on March 26,
2015 on March 9,
2016 on February 27,
2017 on February 21.
For some reason, I cannot find 2018.

Is it possible that Freddy did not migrate south in the fall? He was spotting at the end of October, and now he is showing up at the nest in the middle of February. Maybe he didn’t make the trip.

That I cannot say for sure, but I don’t think he would like to stay for the winter for lack of food. It is a long flight to and from the warmer countries, but he usually is the last to leave and the first to claim back his nest, waiting for his mate.

Thanks. I am aware of that as I have been watching and contributing for many years. I was actually referring to the minutes, not the hours.

Hello 2019!!!!!
Freddy had been seen on the nest on 2-8-19. I keep looking here but don’t see him when I have looked. But the new season of our storks is coming upon us. I hope stork watchers will come back here. It is pretty lonely with just me posting.

Hi Jean, I have been checking in on the nest for a few weeks now. I don’t usually post anything. It has been such a harsh winter here in Wisconsin, I’m searching for some signs of Spring!

Hello Paula. I do hope you come back and post. I don’t like talking to myself. Sorry about your winter. I am from Minnesota but don’t live there now. Minnesota has had equally a harsh winter. We all look forward to spring but I hope there are no tornadoes.

I am new to this site, too, Paula–AND also live in Wisconsin (Madison). I am eager to add this site/nest to the Ospreys and Eagles sites that I have been watching since 2014!!
