Nesting season usually starts sometime in May. Once eggs are laid incubation occurs for 28 days before hatching. Remember, loonlets fledge within 24hours of hatching.

a couple visitors this morning
from what I have gathered chick #1 did not make it and #2 is still alive. I am not 100% about this information.
maybe I have them flip flopped. If anyone can confirm that would be great. Also if anyone knows what happened to the chick that did not make it. thank you
I’m just reading it now and the first chick is also dead… this is what they are saying

one of the chicks is on the raft still, but sadly it is dead. the other one was taken off the water a few minutes after starting to swim, presumably by an eagle or perhaps snapping turtle

at 15:54 it is getting ready to swim and goes in the water then at 15:59 it disappears (the first chick)
the second chick hatched but it has been stuck on its back for over two hours, the loon committee has been contacted, and this is what they said…

There is not much that can be done at this point since the nest is still occupied. Hopefully the baby will flip back over on its own, or with assistance from a parent…

I am hearing that at least one of the eggs has hatched here. I have tried to find it on rewind but mamma loon isn’t making it easy. 😅 I just hope those voices I’m hearing are actually really far away. I’ve seen her go into a defensive posture several times. Makes me a little worried. 🙄
