F23 Removes Roadkill Cat From Nest While M15 Incubates Egg

Late in the afternoon, an important moment unfolded at the nest when F23 arrived and quickly took action. M15 was already on the nest when she flew in, and it was clear she had a job to do. What appeared to be the remains of a domestic cat, likely roadkill, had been sitting in the nest. F23 acted as the cleanup crew, removing the prey and restoring the nest to a safer and calmer space for the family.

This event was seen from multiple angles, including Cam 2, Cam 1, and the pond cam. These different views allowed watchers to clearly see F23 grab the remains and fly off toward the office oak. As she crossed over the pond, M15 stayed behind and watched her flight, never leaving his post.

Why F23 Removing the Prey Mattered

The removal of the prey was an important moment for the nest. With a young eaglet growing quickly and an unviable second egg still being incubated, keeping the nest clean helps reduce pests and keeps the area more comfortable. F23’s actions showed strong nest care instincts and teamwork between the adult eagles.

Once the nest was cleared, M15 settled back into his role. He continued incubating egg 2, even though it is believed to be non viable. E26 remained close beside him, resting peacefully now that the nest space was more open and clean.

A Calm Ending After a Difficult Sight

While the situation itself was sad, many viewers felt relief once the nest was cleared. The scene shifted from something uncomfortable to watch into a quiet moment of care and routine. The eagles carried on with their responsibilities, showing how wildlife continues forward even on difficult days.

F23’s quick cleanup allowed the focus to return to what matters most at the nest right now: caring for E26 and maintaining a safe space for the family as the season continues.
