E26 Steals a Pine Sprig and Incubates Egg2 in a Hilarious SWFL Eagle Nest Moment

Every once in a while, something happens at an eagle nest that makes everyone stop, laugh, and say, “Did that really just happen?” On January 16, 2026, viewers watching the SWFL Eagle cams got exactly that kind of moment when young E26 stole the show. What started as a normal feeding quickly turned into a funny and surprising scene that no one expected.

After getting a big meal from mom, E26 sat there with a very full crop, looking proud and very satisfied. Just then, dad M15 flew in with a stick. The landing did not go as planned, and the stick slipped off to the side of the nest. M15 then moved away to the inner limb, and that’s when E26 decided it was time to stand up, stretch, do a perfect PS… and then do something completely unexpected.

Well-fed, well-fluffed, and clearly feeling qualified… E26 took over incubation duties. 😁

E26 walked straight over to Egg2 and slowly lowered their body onto it like this had been the plan all along. There was a little fluff, a tiny wiggle, and a serious-looking adjustment, just like an adult eagle would do. For a moment, it really looked like E26 thought, “Yep, this is my job now.” The chick wasn’t just being cute. E26 was clearly pretending to be a parent.

A Young Eaglet’s Instincts on Full Display

This wasn’t just random silliness. E26 was copying what mom and dad do every day. The eaglet pushed nest material around, pulled grasses closer, and made sure their body was lined up over Egg2. These are things adult eagles do to take care of eggs, and seeing a chick try it was both amazing and adorable.

Even when F23 came over to check on the egg, E26 didn’t rush to move. Instead, the chick stayed right where they were, looking calm and confident, as if to say, “I’ve got this covered.” It was hard not to smile.

The Pine Sprig Tug-of-War That Stole the Show

Just when things couldn’t get any funnier, a dried pine sprig entered the story. As F23 worked on fixing the nest, E26 reached out and grabbed the pine right out from under her. What followed was a hilarious game of keep-away, with E26 turning their head and refusing to give it back.

E26 may have had the pine, but mom had the plan.

F23 waited patiently, clearly amused. E26 held onto the pine, tiny wing tips sticking out and pin feathers showing, looking very proud of the prize. Eventually, E26 dropped it, and mom calmly picked it up and placed it right on top of E26, smoothing it into the nest like only a mom can.

The whole exchange was gentle, playful, and full of personality. It showed just how strong the bond is between F23 and her growing chick.

A Future Parent in the Making

Between sitting on Egg2, helping with the nest, and playing with the pine sprig, E26 showed just how smart and confident it is becoming. These moments gave everyone a glimpse of what kind of eagle E26 might be one day.

Both cameras caught every detail, from the tiny foot movements to the careful way E26 settled onto the egg. It was funny, sweet, and a little bit amazing all at once.

For longtime eagle watchers, this was a special milestone. For new viewers, it was a perfect reminder that even young eaglets are always watching, learning, and sometimes making us laugh.
