Yes, it’s unbelievable that M15 has lost 2 mates in the short 6 years that I’ve been watching eagle nests.
Yes he did and I guess by now he has picked a new mate.
I haven’t heard anything about M15’s new mate (F26) yet. There’s a video from May showing him on the tower with another eagle (assumed female), but I couldn’t find any info after that. None of the local videographers seem to be following M15 right now, or else he has left the area for summer vacation.
M15 deserves father of the century award for having to raise his kids on his own twice . What a guy. Hope he picks another great mate💞

That female looks more mature than the sub adult we were seeing recently.
There are two females in the area, one is banded the other not.
I just read this about the banded one “KD1 hatched in 2022, in the Prado Basin, Orange County, CA. Making this eagle four years old. KD1 is believed to be female, although I haven’t found 100% confirmation of the eagle’s gender. She can be easily recognized by her lavender leg band and several distinctive patches of dark feathers on her otherwise white head.” The viewers who watched that eagle nest must have been thrilled to know that KD1 survived the first 4 years and is well.
This is very interesting ML. They say that mature eagles settle down within 50 miles of their natal nest. I just used the ‘as the crow flies’ calculator website, and Prado Basin (where KD1 comes from) is 46.39 miles from Big Bear Lake.

Thank you for the update, ML. It sounds like she could use another blood transfusion since her PCV is almost back to the level it was 2 weeks ago when she was rescued (although that is not without risk). It would give her energy and help her breathing and bring her PCV up again. Hope they hurry with the additional test results. It’s good that they have more information now to help them to know what direction to take/next steps. That’s a nice photo. Hang in there, Jackie! We’re rooting for you.
