The eagles typically lay eggs in late January. Incubation, hatching, and early chick rearing run through late winter and early spring.
Over the years, Jackie and Shadow have become fan favorites as viewers watch them overcome storms, snow, heat, and the occasional raven or intruding eagle. Their nest sits more than a mile above sea level in the San Bernardino Mountains. Here, changing weather at Big Bear Lake can bring bright sunshine one day and heavy snow the next. That dramatic setting makes every visit to the Big Bear Eagle cam a little different. You may see calm sunrise lake views or intense wind and snow events that test the nest.

Ladyhawk posted a video of the subadult visiting the nest for the first time. Did you see it? A little hard to watch to say the least, but the eagle looks different, so that helped me! Then Shadow and the subadult roosted together over night. It’s like he has made a new friend

He was on the nest today a little while ago, and she came up and landed on a branch and then dropped down to the nest.. the timestamp is in the picture. If you move back just a couple minutes you’ll see them together in the nest. She was trying to print him.😆 and then when he took off, she quickly followed. You could see them in the other tree.

I’ve been putting off posting anything because I just haven’t had the words. This nest just won’t be the same without Jackie. I do pray that Shadow continues his journey here. My heart breaks for him. He doesn’t even know where she is. It brings back the heartache when Harriet went missing and M15 spent so many days and nights watching and calling for her to come home.

Blood clots can occur from an improperly matched blood transfusion in humans. I don’t know if this can happen in birds as well. I wonder if she had aspergillosis which affects the lungs and can cause infections in the liver and kidneys. The cause(s) will be clearer when they release the necropsy results. According to the Ojai website, the necropsy was done by the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance.
