The eagles typically lay eggs in late January. Incubation, hatching, and early chick rearing run through late winter and early spring.
Over the years, Jackie and Shadow have become fan favorites as viewers watch them overcome storms, snow, heat, and the occasional raven or intruding eagle. Their nest sits more than a mile above sea level in the San Bernardino Mountains. Here, changing weather at Big Bear Lake can bring bright sunshine one day and heavy snow the next. That dramatic setting makes every visit to the Big Bear Eagle cam a little different. You may see calm sunrise lake views or intense wind and snow events that test the nest.

I am hopeful the CDFW will be able to determine what happened once they have examined Jackie. They will surely give the world some much needed answers and closure. I also can’t stop thinking of Shadow💕

I thought I was OK today until I saw this post first thing on FB…….This is only part of it……… I have cried an absolutely ridiculous amount of tears today over a bald eagle. And I don’t even care how ridiculous that sounds. Jackie died today. Thank you Ardyth. So beautiful. I’ve tried to muddle through the day, and I just feel so lost, knowing our sweetest girl is not at the nest sight. I know she is in peace and out of pain, but all I keep doing is crying. Crying for Shadow. Wishing we knew what happened. This beautiful creature was shining so brightly. Jackie represents care, love, loyalty and compassion. If we could only make it all better. I can’t stop thinking of Shadow…

A truly sad ending for our beautiful Jackie. GOD didn’t allow her to die alone. She had the best care possible and were with people who loved her that she didn’t even know. We know that she passed and can allow the grief to be present with that knowledge. Much harder when we don’t ever know what happened. RIP JACKIE, YOU ARE SAFELY HOME.
