You are watching a mating pair of Bald Eagles named M2(male) and F3(female). The nest and PTZ cams are located in a Loblolly pine tree near Kincaid Lake in the Kisatchie National Forest. The cams have been set-up and are maintained by the U.S. Forest service. Nesting usually starts in December followed by egg laying in mid to late January.

M2 took a turn incubating the egg. He rolled it out of the bole of the nest and tried to lay on it. So cute. He realized the egg doesn’t fit that well under him and that he couldn’t lay on it. lol. Finally the egg was positioned to be in the bole. F3 came at 10:47. M2 was really enjoying sitting on that nice warm nest. Even though she was standing there, he continued to position nest grass around himself, but at 10:48, he decided to get up and give her a turn.
Hi MaryNJ. I got so confused on the two eagles at thIs site. We were calling them M2 and F3, and then I found out they were newly named Louis II and Anna II. Then I could only find a way to comment on the E-3 nest, but not E-1, but I guess all the comments are being done at the same site, E-3. Do I have all that correct? 😅
Yes, both of the nests are in the Kisatchie National Forest near Kincaid Lake, which is why both nests are together in the SPO web site and comments for both are here. Anna, the original female eagle at the E-1 nest whose mate was Louis, died. Then last season several eagles visited the empty nest. M2 is how they referred to the 2nd male eagle at this nest. He was not yet a mature eagle with a mate last season. He was bringing a lot of turtles to the nest. At one point, they counted 36 turtles on the nest.… Read more »

Good to see that the female was bringing in dry moss/grasses to the nest multiple times and helping with the nest building today. Everything was wet from the rain.

Thanks, Karen. That was interesting. She was observing him building the nest. She still has some dark feathers on her head, so she may not be at the stage where she can lay an egg yet. Stepped very gently toward him, until he started calling for F3. Seems like she was wondering if he had a mate or not. She’ll have to find a different partner.
Hi MaryNJ. You’re welcome. 🙂 I was thinking the same things. I thought it was cute that he was so into doing nestorations that he didn’t recognize that she was the wrong eagle for a few minutes. And then he started yelling when he figured it out. 😊❤️ She did seem very young. I noticed that her eye area was very dark colored. I felt kind of sorry for her, but she will find a mate soon enough. 😘
Both eyes of F3 are also dark, not yellow. I read that dark eyes on an adult eagle are rare. It will be easier to tell the male apart from the female at this nest. She also has a very very loud cry. I had to turn my sound down to ‘1’ when she was calling for him at 13:36 today. Seems like M2 is doing all the nest building there. She flew in to eat a fish that he brought her at 13:36, and then she left right afterwards. Didn’t see her aerate the nest or bring even one… Read more »

Been watching the Eagle Cams for the last year now. It’s wonderful to watch them go from egg to hatchling. But I’d like to know why there is a Light on this nest at Night. Is it an Infrared Light?
hello and welcome. yes its a light that is on a spectrum that only the cameras can see. If you went to the nest at night it would be complete darkness.

After that experience I wouldnt either.But thats how nature is. Lets just hope its more peaceful there this year.

Hope the parents bring the proper amount of food so that doesn’t happen again this season. If these are first time parents, they’ll just be learning how much food to bring.
