Osprey Nest Cam – LoLo, MT
Your watching wild Osprey named Swoop and Winnie at the Dunrovin Osprey Cam. Swoop returned for the nesting season with a new mate(2024). Harriet was his previous mate.
The nest is located 45 feet off the ground on the top of a pole. Nesting season is from April to Early August. After the Osprey leave for migration the ranch owners install a bird feeder station on the nest perch.
You will see all kinds of birds including raptors, geese, squirrels and more. The feeder station comes down in spring right before the osprey are about to return.

2022 – First egg was damaged and is non-viable. Second egg laid around 4-25-22, third egg laid around 4-27-22. incubation is 36-42 days before hatching occurs. Eggs hatch in the order they are laid because incubation starts after the first egg is laid.

Star was at the nest at 8:00 pm begging for food again. Can’t believe that 4 fish was not enough for her. Poor Spangle didn’t show up at all today. Hope that Spangle is okay. 😪
Star got 4 fish, 10:26, 12:19, 3:04, 4:55. Star took the 4th fish away at 4:57, and came back 5 minutes later without the fish at 5:02, so it probably got dropped.
Yesterday evening, Swoop brought Star a big fish. Star ate everything but the tail end and had it in her talons. Spangle flew to the perch and was crying for food. Flat crop. Both of them were up on the perch. Star wouldn’t share the tail of the fish with Spangle. Spangle flew down but was shoved off the nest twice by Star. I’ve only seen Star at the nest so far today. Swoop brought Star a fish
This time Star flew off with the fish instead of eating it there.
Star brought the fish to a telephone pole (cute little horse 💗)
But twenty five minutes later, Star was still not eating the fish. Star was looking around as if looking for someone, maybe for Spangle?
Spangle flew into the nest, and a short time later, Swoop came with a nice sized fish. Winnie flew in at the same time as Swoop. Maybe she was hoping for some of the fish too.
Spangle was making a lot of noise while Winnie was there. Was looking at that fish as if she had caught it herself. Twenty minutes later Spangle started eating.
Star finally started eating her fish when Spangle got a fish.
Star must have dropped her fish off the telephone pole because she flew in and grabbed Spangle’s fish.

A new fish was brought for Spangle, and Spangle went up on the perch to eat it.
The mom took the fish from Spangle when Spangle came down to the nest. Winnie was feeding Spangle a little bit.
Then the mom finished up the end of it.
Two more fish were brought after this, and they all ate. Winnie flew away with a big piece of fish that Spangle was too stuffed to eat. Swoop did a wonderful job fishing today. 💖 It seems that some fish were lost due to being dropped, but Star and Spangle need to learn how to eat on a branch. Once they accomplish this, we probably won’t be seeing them as much.
August 14th 2:38 – Swoop brought a smaller fish for Star, but the fish got away from Swoop’s grasp, and it flipped itself all over the place and into the rails of the nest. Star looked around and discovered where the fish was.
Star tried and tried for a couple of minutes to grab the fish with her beak without success.
Star then decided to pull the stick off the fish so that she could get a better grip on the fish, but unfortunately, lifting the stick up released the fish and down it went. She is showing good problem solving skills.

Star waited at the nest and was crying out for food. At 6:44 Swoop came by with a big fish. This time, the head of the fish was already eaten, so the fish didn’t flop around. Star was so excited that she grabbed Swoop’s leg. 😆
Star claimed the fish, but then Spangle flew in.
Spangle tried to take the fish from Star. There was a big tussle over this fish, but Star held onto it, and managed to keep it.
Spangle was crying for food, and about an hour later, Swoop brought another fish which Spangle claimed. Star was still eating her own fish.
Spangle flew away with her fish.
They showed Spangle on the telephone pole in the distance. It looked like she was eating her fish, but after a half hour she flew back to the perch at the nest. Her crop didn’t look full and she was crying for food, so maybe she dropped the fish without finishing it. No more fish were brought after this.
Swoop brought a really big fish at 2:34pm. Star and Spangle shared the fish. They each got a small fish this evening too, Spangle just after 7pm and Star just after 8 pm.
Star and Spangle waited at the nest for food. Swoop brought a fish at about 9 pm. Star grabbed the fish, but then there was a battle and Spangle ended up with it. Star cried out for a fish and Swoop brought one for Star, but unfortunately, the fish wiggled out of Swoop’s talons and was flipping around.
The fish ended up flipping over the edge of the nest as Star watched. No fish for poor Star. This evening’s food deliveries were the only food deliveries since 1:30 pm.
