Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

I don’t watch hockey (or really any sport), but my friend will be happy to know that she’s a big hockey fan, her son used to play when he was young

Hi Deb! Been a hockey fan for over 50 years. I was even part of the booster club when Denver still pre-NHL; they were called the Denver Spurs.

I have only heard them singing, they eat dried berries and crab apples up here when there’s no insects, but I have only heard them the last 2 weeks. So interesting thanks for posting this. I only see them eating berries or crab apples in the fall though and they don’t come to feeders I have never seen one in the winter ever

Theres nothing like that in my neighborhood-there are grapes but all those got eaten in the fall, when the insects die out or hirbrinate for the winter

at least you leave some leaf litter like under bushes and I’m sure there is some here and there. and I do, too..I tell my helper to leave some under bushes, on the garden, etc

Chickadees, nut hatches wood peckers, can get spiders over wintering in tree bark, but robins are ground feeders, I do leave brush standing and leaves for the insects. I don’t clean up till its really warmed up

Well with global warming all of nature is out of wack, I do know from the past when my Aunt Nancy lived in Florida, that she remembered seeing Robins come for their winter stay-she loved it because it reminded her of home and northern wisconsin😍

someone I petsit for, her cat used to do that…she worked with him for awhile to get him to stop and it did…she would watch for the signs that he was even thinking about it, like when he’d had enough petting, overstimulated…and if he did even start or try to it was immediate walk away and ignore…can’t remember if she ever used a squirt bottle but just brief petting or whatever and then the ignoring, walking away, worked for the most part

She’s been kind of bitey lately, she’s not getting her way and acts out-like she wants to go out side when its night time, and I don’t want to go out in the dark and cold or in the morning when I just get up-thats why she was mad this morning😼

10 degrees/feels like 3 … brrrr
I cannot believe i’m up at 6a watching a stupid hockey game in Italy 🙄 i definitely see a nap in my not too distant future 😴 👀
The Olympics are crazy; the U.S goalie actually plays for the Winnipeg Jets; while several of the players on the Canadian team play for my own Colorado Avalanche. 🏒

Good morning Pam. Of course you watched the hockey game! You are retired! It was the gold medal game! For the Olympics that only occur every 4 years. I’ve know you to stay up most of the night because you got immersed in a book! Funny to read how the players cross play in the 2 countries.
