Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

Just got back inside after turning on water for the back yard. I watered the front yard last night.
I slept a lot after I went to bed last night. Then, after I got up, I fed Dutchess, stayed up a few minutes, and went back to bed. I got up at about 11:00 a.m. I feel pretty rested today. I’m going to cook a quick spaghetti meal now. 😋

No, I cook the ground beef and then toss in canned tomatoes, tomato sauce and paste, and whatever spices I feel like. Then simmer.

So scratch. Good for you. I love spaghetti. I use a jar of spaghetti sauce but by the time Im done with it it seems homemade. Lots of onion, green bell pepper, fresh mushrooms, garlic, oregano, basil, sugar before I started dieting. Sometimes tomato sauce or diced canned tomatoes.

Good evening…cooking some sweet corn at the moment. I finished washing pet bedding today and read on the porch. DH came home late, he went to his dad’s to meet the new caregiver. Just saw that it’s after 7… I might watch some of the AGT repeat. After I eat, I’ll go for my evening walk (short one), watch AGT and then read.

to explain better, our friends are college friends…our college is not far from where my sister lives, maybe 1/2 hour..they live in Iowa but are on the road, traveling a bit I guess..not sure where they were headed but when she was here, they texted her to see if she was home and she was sad that she missed them…so they must be traveling through her area again.

Hi Lynn I love corn. How do you cook it? In my early years I made fried corn. It was very unhealthy and the best corn I ever ate. Later on I had a baked recipe with a similar flavor and still unhealthy. Now I just microwave it and it is as healthy as corn can be.

I am hoping and praying they will determine the cause of her problems. I wish they had done ALL the tests sooner. People sent in millions of dollars for that purpose. I read they applied the funds to the other patients also. Don’t know if that was a factor, though. 😪

I thought they started the testing right away, just kept adding more tests to the list. They probably used all the money they needed on Jackie’s care. There is just so much that money can buy. Our vet did everything to save our cockatoo, she was just to sick.

Karen Marie

I believe they ran a few cursory tests, then later ran more advanced tests after waiting. Seems she was sick enough to run the advanced tests sooner. They had the funds, I think. Over a million poured in immediately. I even donated, and I almost never do. Just sayin’

They probably should have been more aggressive with all those donations. Done more the first time anesthesia was given so they wouldn’t have to put her under again. Anesthesia is dangerous. My cockatoo might have lived longer, who knows, if it wasn’t for the anesthesia. But she was very sick.

KyDebbie
August 7, 2026 9:23 pm

It did. She couldn’t get enough oxygen in her lungs. But I don’t blame the anesthesia. She was sick. It just hastened death. Casey had his strong not too long afterward and the vet needed to put him to sleep to do X-rays, I don’t remember what else. That was very nerve wracking and scary. Would the anesthesia kill him too? This was the same place we lost Makita.

That is so sad. I know she was your baby. I remember when you had to take Casey in when you guys got home and found him so lethargic. That was a horrible feeling. 😢 💕 We do the best we can, though, and vets are learning more every day.

No more cooking, thank goodness. I buy veterinarian prescription, gastro, low-fat dog food from Royal Canin. They have to ship it to me. But she loves it! Yes, the main problem was her pancreas.

Is it a canned or dry food? Im so glad you don’t have to cook for her. I know that was wearing you out. All that boiling chicken, deboning, shredding, cooking rice, freezing in small portions and you sick too.

Oh, that was a rough time. We were both sick, her worse, though. Her food is dry – just open the re-sealable bag and scoop it out. And she won’t eat it if it hasn’t been kept in an air-tight container. If she ever leaves any in the bowl, she will not go back to it. Finicky little baby. Maybe it loses it’s flavor.

It is definitely better when it is fresh. The bag I get is either 7 or 8 pound. I divide it into about 4 parts. 3 parts I vacuum seal and freeze. The forth part I put in an air sealed lock and lock container made to hold breakfast cereal and put it in the fridge. Karen I have to say good night. I have been really tired today and had to force myself do what I needed to do. I hope you sleep as well as you did last night. I love you , sweet dreams for a sweet… Read more »

They said they ran initial tests and were waiting on those results before they ran any “more complicated” tests. They should have run those first, I think. I believe almost all of that money should have been spent for Jackie. They wouldn’t have gotten near that amount of donations without her. I know, I am just heart broken, so i will probably find every reason why they didn’t do enough.

Update on Rick: Rick’s incredibly picky about food and is not eating as much as he should be. Chuck said we’ll have to fatten him up, since his jeans are falling off. 😟 He’s able to grasp a glass of water with his right hand; still struggling a bit with walking. We have a walker here for him. They want Chuck to attend a class/PT session on Tues, then spend the night in a little apartment set aside for such. Then Rick’s being released from captivity on Weds! 🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️

All in all, a good report. Progress! What has it been now, about 4 weeks? Y’all will get him fattened up pretty quickly I bet, soon as he gets home. Rick will be so happy to get home and so will you and Chuck. It is a big deal if he can drink with his right hand; it will strengthen more as will his walking. That apartment is a great thing, so is the class! Rick had to be in a really good place.
