About the nest
This live sea eagle nest camera is positioned approximately 50 feet above the ground in a eucalyptus tree within a protected nature reserve at Sydney Olympic Park. The nest is home to a pair of White-Bellied Sea Eagles (Haliaeetus leucogaster), one of Australia’s largest native birds of prey.

April 9: both eagles returned to the nest in the evening – then a big hole opened up in the base – probably where Ringtail possums had been underneath. What will they do now?
I saw both parents at the nest recently. Hope they rebuild and not build a new one without a cam

And no further information on any sightings of SE35.💔💔 “As previously reported, SE36 was found dead on the roof of a building under construction (near Lady & Dad’s river roost) on the 25th of November. So tragic. If he flew into a pane of glass, maybe they should start attaching swooper bird decals onto the panes of glass on big buildings to deter the young eagles from flying into the glass, especially on the sides of buildings facing the Reserve.
It is tragic to lose a healthy eaglet to injuries like that😥

If the remainder of the necropsy testing for toxins, bird flu, etc. don’t show anything, then I hope that the authorities there will try to do an analysis of exactly what could have caused the injury considering the construction equipment that was near where he landed and the stage of the building construction, and then use this information to brainstorm with creative ideas on how to prevent this in the future. It always seems sadder when we lose any bird/wildlife. to a man made cause, like this accident, electrocution, lead poisoning. They have a hard start on their own from nature, without humans stacking the odds.

Someone on FB mentioned that Lil was found in the center of the floor. It doesn’t sound like he flew into a window, because if he did, he probably would have fallen down outside or close to the exterior of the building. The Eagle Cam admin on FB posted a photo of the buildings being constructed with an arrow showing the building he was found on, and the buildings looked like they didn’t even have many windows in them yet.
