The eagles typically lay eggs in late January. Incubation, hatching, and early chick rearing run through late winter and early spring.
Over the years, Jackie and Shadow have become fan favorites as viewers watch them overcome storms, snow, heat, and the occasional raven or intruding eagle. Their nest sits more than a mile above sea level in the San Bernardino Mountains. Here, changing weather at Big Bear Lake can bring bright sunshine one day and heavy snow the next. That dramatic setting makes every visit to the Big Bear Eagle cam a little different. You may see calm sunrise lake views or intense wind and snow events that test the nest.

The live camera feeds are provided by Friends of Big Bear Valley, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the eagles and their habitat. Use the wide-angle view to watch the surrounding forest and weather over Big Bear Lake. Alternatively, switch to the nest view for a close-up look at Jackie and Shadow on the bald eagle nest. Viewers often zoom in to see egg turning, feeding, and wing exercises from growing eaglets. You can also catch nighttime visits under infrared lights. Whether you drop in for a quick check or follow the pair through the nesting season, the Big Bear Eagle cams offer a front-row seat to the lives of Jackie and Shadow in all four seasons.

I sure wish the results from those blood and chemical tests would be faster. The past 5 days of waiting have felt like weeks. In this news article, the Director of the Alaska Raptor Center talks about the various different common eagle injuries that they address at their Raptor Center.

MOMMY!!!! WHERE ARE YOU??
Just breaks my heart ❤️. But soooo thankful that Jackie is in good hands. Jackie, we all love you very much!!!
It’s sad to see the eaglets or the mate scanning the skies searching for some sign of a missing adult. I saw that with M15 and E26 when F23 disappeared this year. Yesterday, Sandy and Luna were in the nest and Shadow was on the branch, and they were all calling out at the same time. Sandy and Luna were squeeing, and Shadow was calling as if calling for Jackie to come. I’m glad that Sandy and Luna have each other for companionship at this time.
so am I. I remember how lost M15 was after 26 left and when Harriet went missing. bad times
Shadow
I am right there with y’all, wringing my hands, praying, crying here and there, and remaining so worried. I thought something was wrong shortly after Luna and Sandy were “born.” I didn’t think it would be this serious. Anemia and poor kidney function. Waiting on tests for toxins, etc. 😓😭🙏❤️
I’m with you all, too, Karen Marie. Crying, hoping and praying, for a full recovery ❤️🩹. Hopefully she is comfortable enough for now, considering…. Thankfully she is in good hands. She is so cherished. Group hug and blowing kisses to Jackie.
I heard one report that she’s in critical condition 😪
Hi, Bozsmom. Yes, the treating facility said she is in critical condition, has anemia and kidney inflamation. They are waiting for results of tests to determine the cause, and determine which treatments are required. The testing could take 3-10 days. She is eating with assistance, and she can still stand and perch. 🙏😥 Here is an excellent article from an ABC reporter. https://abc7.com/post/bald-eagle-jackie-critical-condition-rescue-big-bear-nest/19556921/
thanks for that article. the longer she’s away from shadow and the kids, the more I worry they’ll forget who she is🙁
Another update… Love the “She is mad fighting the staff”, sorry staff.
Thank you ML… there doesn’t seem to be any mention of a specific injury, am I correct on that?
I understand the same you do, she is not absorbing nutrients well.
Thanks ML
You are welcome!
thanks ML
You are welcome!
That’s our girl!!!! We love you Jackie.
We sure do!
Yes I’m glad she has the strength to be feisty.
😄 Me too!
I wonder where the kids are hanging out, hope it’s with dad teaching them how to be a great eagle 💙💛
I have seen them coming to the nest several times a day, awaiting and receiving food from Shadow. I also saw Luna actually chase after a sub-adult today, because it was chasing Shadow. Learning fast!!
Wow, that’s surprising about Luna.
Missing Mom for sure…
Oh, they are!! They are the sweetest of their babies yet, I think. 🩷
