Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

Hey – I was able to catch Dutchess doing her nails while I had the phone/camera handy. Photos are a little blurry, sorry. She is doing the best she can. Her teeth are so little, because she is so little, and she is older, so her teeth aren’t as strong as they need to be for her to correctly trim them. (According to the vet.) She was able to do it for 9-1/2 years, though. Still looking for a good groomer or vet to help me with it. I might try out a scratch box, or make my own. I… Read more »

that’s interesting, never heard of that…there are mobile vets, at least here, if you don’t want to take her somewhere.

My American Bulldog did her nails too. I never clipped her the whole time I had her, once I painted her nails red she was a white dog-she would sit so pretty and her red nails did show😍

Julie, I am really glad to hear that you had a dog who did their own nails. I have been looking for a long time and couldn’t find anyone else, anywhere. Made my day! 🌹

Hi Lynn. The problem is she is too terrified. One vet was going to sedate her but wanted to keep her sedated for two days before the procedure. No way! I’m hoping to find some good groomer she will accept. Probably won’t happen. But still trying. The scratch box sounds like a plausible option. Hide the toy or the snack inside the sliding drawer that I can open when ready. (Looks better than it sounds.)

Hi Lynn. ❤️ She really gets super scared. She just freaks out. One vet tried to do it and as he was holding her and starting, she began shaking all over, twisting her whole little body and peeing and pooping at the same time all over the vet. I really don’t want to put her through that again. Vets are used to it. This vet anyway, he just shrugged it off. 😂

Hi Julie. ❤️ Dutchess is one half mini Jack Russell Terrier and 1/2 mini Poodle/Schnauzer. 🤣 This is the best picture I have handy to show her face. It is taken at an angle that makes her head look bigger than her body though. I forgot to mention, the Poodle in her makes her non-allergenic and she does not shed, at all. Double bonus!!

Hello..today was an “outside jobs” day…did some raking, dumping flowers and dirt into the ravine. etc..tomorrow I plan on taking walks. I did some of that today, too, walked the dogs a couple times..and played hide and seek with the adorable neighbor girl, who is a toddler…so cute, sweet, fun…we were going to take food to FIL’s but plans have changed…not sure if we are eating here or going out.

Good morning I guess I never really said good morning it is still morning here. Oh another busy morning which I didn’t think I would have LOL. I gave myself a pedicure and polished my toenails and then I gave Nikki a little trim and gave her a bath Had a blow dry. She had the diarrhea when I was gone and she gets it on her long fur in the back and Rick being a man just cut it off instead of washing it off or cutting it nicely. He says well it was the middle of the night.… Read more »
