Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

I got the firebox done. The HVAC man came and pretty much said what I thought. Prophane wall heater. He doesn’t sell them or do the propane tank. He told us who does. He can hook it up and maybe coordinate for the propane people and him to be here at the same time.

You got answers-so this is just for heat? not running appliances or lights?

Yes. And it will help even when we don’t have a power outage but it is really cold. Probably cheaper for really cold weather than our furnace. Furnaces down here are called heat pumps, designed for our typical weather. But when the weather gets abnormally cold they can be expensive to run. Then I want to get a small battery for the fridge. It could even be used for anything on a road trip, whatever.

We have heat pumps in Tucson too. I had never herd of them when I moved here. We have a furnace.
Do you think they are more expensive than a furnace? Our furnace is gas and it is expensive if we wanted to keep the temp higher.

I’m not sure about the initial cost but the electricity is supposed be cheaper. Instead of heating itself it draws heat out of the atmosphere. Then if the temperature drops real low here it kicks into “emergency heat” where it does heat. That should never happen in Tucson even overnight.

Of course the view on the nest where E26 flew into you couldn’t see him or her flying into the nest just land on the nest I wish they’d move those cams so we could see more of the nest
