Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

Good morning Bella Buds. I couldn’t do much posting last night. Tired, trying to watch a news. But Nancy and I were texting back and forth, I texted to Shonda, I was getting photos. And trying to keep up with chat here.
It was fun to go to the party, see most of the family, celebrate Nancy. You will know more about the party through some photos than what I can say.
Everyone have a great day.

One story: My niece sent me home with a dozen truly free range and well fed chicken eggs! I’ve never had an egg that didn’t come out of a grocery. Her chickens are like pets. Taken care of really well. She got a dog specially bred to guard the chickens. Of course that dog stays in the house quite a bit and is very sweet , spoiled, and BIG. My niece said one of her chickens laid eggs and got depressed because they were non fertile and didn’t hatch. She wouldn’t stop brooding them. So niece went to the Amish… Read more »

Yummy on the eggs Debbie, they do taste better. The eggs might not hatch, Can check if they are fetile by candling them just by using a bright flash light onto one end of the egg, you would be able to see veins and the shaddow of the chick, you also would be able to see the chick move in the egg. On my farm channels they raise chickens and candle eggs-have seen the whole process😍

Shonda has become pretty much an expert in free range chickens! She has a real candler made for eggs. She knows how long they can go without refrigeration, and it depends if they are washed or not. An unwashed egg has a natural preservative coating and they can last 3 weeks without refrigeration! A washed egg only two hours! Jo made a scene and everyone mad by raising a ruckus, saying the eggs wouldn’t make it home without spoiling. Made Me, Nancy and Shonda mad. She has gotten worse than Gery!

I didn’t do much at all🙄 Talked to Judy a couple of times yesterday her brother is not doing good, he has fallen everyday lately and did fall once and she and her Mom could not get him up so the had to call a ambulance and have them get him up into bed-this is breaking my heart💔 there’s nothing that can be done other than he can’t get up and get out of bed by himself any more

I’m so sorry Julie. It is heart breaking. I know it is so hard for Judy and her mother. I can just imagine the stress. Does Gary have a wheelchair? I know all about the EMTs coming to get me up. Once they had to get me off the commode. I couldn’t even get up from a sitting position. I think that was when my sodium was very low. I got better. Gary will not. Does hospice come very often?

Well, I’m tired. I feel like I’ve gone to a Michael Jackson concert (excited about the movie), went to Kentucky for a little bit to look at statues, etc., and then watched the Derby, from early afternoon until late afternoon. Busy afternoon for me. Mentally, anyway. But I had a nice time. Thank you all for sharing. Now I will get up and get supper. Debbie, I am interested in seeing some pictures of, and hearing about your day. ❤️

Hi Karen I’ll post either later on tonight or tomorrow. Still playing catch-up and watching some news. I’m also pretty tired but want to catch up. I’ll probably post about the day after I have supper.

Yes I enjoyed it. I would have posted more but I got text messages, a couple from my niece, a bunch from Nancy, responded to a couple posts at Decorah, and I guess responded to a whole lot here! I been busy replying! Couldn’t get caught up to really talk about today. I’m exhausted.
So I’m going to say good night to you, my friend and sweet buddy. Hope you are really doing good, and so is Baby Girl. Love you

It was a good Derby. So happy about the 1st female trainer to win, the second in the triple crown winners. One of the owners, the spokesperson, was a woman. The first Derby winner for the jockey who also won the Oaks. It was a clean race, I didn’t see bumping. I’m just sorry for the scratched horse and those associated with him.

I hate it when scratches happen. I believe Great White replaced another scratch, which makes 2. Bad for everyone concerned. I so hope he isn’t injured. He is a beautiful and high spirited horse.

He is handsome. He seemed to trot off the track OK so hopefully his legs are not injured at least enough to be visible. It seems those are the worst for horses.

Yes, their young bones seem to cause problems sometimes, from what I hear. I was, and remain, heartbroken about Barbaro, who shattered his leg at the Preakness in 2006 and had to “go home” before his time. 💐😥 Such a beautiful spirit. He would have been a great champion.
