Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

Back inside dripping wet from sweat, I cleaned the bird baths watered some cleaned the hummer feeder and filled it. The little female hummer just buzzed around me going flower to flower and seemed conderned when I took the feeder to clean. I just hung it up and she was drinking out of it and I was like 2 feet away from her. Had Jade outside for a bit but its just to hot for someone with fur😂

Good morning Bella Buds. I’m thinking of Rick and Julie’s parents this morning. Wishing all the best. Things are uncertain for me today. Jo’s vision in her eye is not better, if anything worse. She has appointments to see both our ophthalmologist in 9 days, and her retina specialist a little further out. She is afraid to wait. So she just now called the retina specialist office to see if she can be seen today and we are waiting on a call back. We would have to go to Lexington today, two hour drive. It is hard for me to… Read more »

Good Morning Bellas hot and humid morning. I’m up watching a program on Monarchs on PBS. Its nice watching it as I’m raising Monarchs now. Turns out there was a bad storm in Mexico where the Monarchs overwinter its killed about 50% of Monarchs that were there. They were found dead frozen on the ground so if you notice there’s less Monarchs that could be true because of the over wintering area in Mexico. The Monarchs also face a struggle in Mexico of their fir trees being cut down-there are protected areas for the Monarchs but trees still get cut. The… Read more »

Good morning Sunshine, it is good to get outside stuff done early in the heat.
Sorry what happened to the butterflies. I wonder if the storms are also the reason I had fewer hummers this year. I imagine the butterflies and hummers go to different areas, but storms can be widespread.
