Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

I will read this post about teriyaki in a little bit, Ardyth. Once I click on the link, it will kick me out of SPO, so I’ll read a couple of posts first. 🤗

It sure is PITA! 🙂

I hate that if you respond to an early post it kicks it to the top. That was bad enough, but used to you could refresh once and the post would get back in order. Now I can refresh multiple times and it doesn’t work. So I completely shut down, sometimes that works, sometimes not. I think responding to an older posts should stay where the original post was.

Well, guess what!? I didn’t get kicked off SPO this time. Yay! Evidently, they fixed the problem.

Anyway, that beef jerky looks really good! Thanksco posting. The pictures look like one or two of the choices contain medium/rare slices. Is that correct?

I feel bad for him, too. Jackie is his ONLY. He was so determined when he wooed her at 4 to 4-1/2 years old. He was so determined that she would be his mate. I’m still praying Jackie will heal in time enough to meet up with him next season or sooner.

Thank you, Debbie. Hugs for you too. 💕 I just pray we don’t get really bad news. I was thinking about all the work Sandy Steers did over the years – following baby Jackie after she hatched, and continuing to follow her as she matured and eventually built this nest, to being able to get a camera on the nest, with support from wildlife doctors and organizations, creating the FOBBV organization with support of the community, and after all that, she just passed away this year, and now her baby, who she did the whole thing for, is in trouble.… Read more »

Oh thanks for the summary on Sandy. I didn’t know all of that. I certainly didn’t know she knew Jackie as a baby! That is rare to know an eaglet grown into a breeding adult in the wild. Wow! Was Jackie banded to be able to keep up with her like this?

Sandy said that Jackie’s parents were the first eagles to come to Big Bear Valley and nest. They built one, and then Jackie tore it up as she learned to fly etc. So Jackie kept coming back after she fledged, every year and in between years. Then upon maturing, she built her nest and ended up with Mr B, and then Shadow. Jackie was the first eagle not to migrate out of the area. Sandy kind of explained how they knew all of this, but it was pretty complicated. I can probably find it on one of her dissertations on… Read more »

Wow Karen that is some history. I don’t think I have heard of any other eagle that was traced from the egg to years of being a known nesting eagle, and in the same location. Thanks for the info.

I order Mike’s jerky. They have a special, 5 small packages for $35 plus free shipping. I did not get to pick the flavors for this special but I felt it was a good way to sample 5 flavors with a discount on the product and free shipping. But I really do want to try the pineapple. I definitely will order it.

Thanks Becki I will check them out. Are they like jerky, don’t require a refrigerator other than to prolong freshness. I have grabbed the jerky when I just needed a little something going out the door until I could really eat. I usually have a cooler but not always. I’m sure I would like them. Thanks for the suggestion.
