Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA
Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.
There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

Happy Birthday Ardy!
Have a great day, improving health , always safe walks in the mornings. Be blessed.
Thank you Gabi 💕
Ardy you will be waking up in about 3 hours. Happy birthday Ardy. I hope you will be feeling much better and can properly enjoy YOUR day. Love.
Sleep well!😃.
Thanks Debbie!
About that time folks, beddie bye time. Everyone have a good night. Pam, Karen, and any other peepers. Love to all and to all a good night.
I was just saying, I am getting tired and I need to eat a couple of bites of my cherry turnover, so I’d better get going. Thanks for keeping me company at this late hour, Debbie and Pam. ❤️ ❤️ Sleep tight and have good dreams everyone. Nite-nite. 😘
🥰♥️
I got home a couple of hours ago and I’m trying to catch up on posts now. Made tuna sammies for supper. I’m trying to relax for a bit. I went to King Soopers, Safeway, Lowe’s, Taco Bell for food, and then Home depot. Done for at least this week, anyway. Still cold outside. It was so nice to hear from Julie.
You do get around.
Well, I don’t get out often, so when I do go out, I have to make it count. Of course I pay for it for a day or two. 🤯
Oh boy. Take it easy now.
Oh, I will. I get to sit back and eat bon bons and watch TV for a couple of days now.
Sounds good to me.
That’s a LOT of getting in and out of the car — 😏
It is indeed. And thankfully my husband is able to grab a basket for me so that I can attach to it immediately and get inside the store, where I then transition to a motorized unit. So at least there’s not a lot of walking. Whew! I would not be able to do all that.
Sounds similar to me. I try to find motorized units in the parking lot. Jo helps me to.
Those units are truly a God-send. I really couldn’t do it without them. My Mom made it somehow, and so did my grandmother, but I don’t know how.
I’ve been using them since a few years before I retired. I retired in 2011.
I had to retire in 2009. I simply could not work anymore. I had just recently gotten over double pneumonia and had problems with my legs and my back — and gastro stuff, etc., basically just falling apart. They never give you enough disability time to recover. So I fought it for a long time, but finally started using the automatic cart a few years later.
I’m not sure i’ve ever seen electric carts at the smaller Kroger/King Soopers; their aisles are so narrow. There’s a much newer/larger store that probably has them. I’m okay as long as i can hold onto the buggy/cart for dear life. 😄
This is a brand new (this year) King Soopers Marketplace. It does have motorized carts. One of the last pieces of undeveloped land in this area. 😩 40 years ago it was just a bunch of homes on a mesa, surrounded by hills and valleys and prairie dogs. Convenience is nice, but . . . .
i hate when the last open space no longer is open. i sure hope the Buc-ees gets shot down; it really doesn’t belong at Palmer Lake
I drive around the parking lot for minutes, sometime many minutes, until I find a parking spot that is somewhat close, with some kind of a basket in front of it 😅.
I have seen articles about Buc-ees. I don’t think it belongs in Palmer Lake either. I used to go fishing there just off the freeway when I was 18. We would go at 5:00 a.m. and hide behind the bushes so no one could see us and catch trout all morning. Such a quaint little place.
Why did you hide?
We didn’t have fishing licenses.
Oh I see!
😂 Brats!
We were. I admit it. We just couldn’t resist. All that beautiful water just sitting there. No one ever seemed to use it. And our fishin’ poles just sitting there, idle. All ready to go!
And we weren’t residents. But we were invincible.
What was it. A gated community? Private lake?
As far as we knew, it was always a public lake. Later, when we were all in our teens, it was rumored that it had been made private and no one was allowed to go in without a permit. Well, being the smart kids that we were, we figured that couldn’t be right, so we went anyway – for years. But I’m not sure what really happened regarding the rights to it. There is another lake close by that is private. I suppose I should research it.
Our Krogers is very small but they have 2 or 3 carts. I got one when I went recently.
It must be small, Debbie. Do you live in a really small town? Or just on the outskirts?
I live in a town of about 2,800 people. The whole county is about 18,600.
Well that’s not too small. A comfortable and quaint town.
It had to be a hard time. What did you retire from?
The City of Colorado Springs. But I had not been there long enough for full PERA pension and had to go with social security.
I’m sorry Karen.
Thanks Debbie. It’s not so bad. It could have been a lot worse. I’m comfortable, have good medical care, still have free will. So I feel lucky. Or maybe even blessed. And, I have nice people to talk to, and I get to watch wild animals on YouTube whenever I want. 😄😍
You are so sweet.
Just trying to stay positive. And I do enjoy talking to y’all. That’s just reality. But thank you. ❤️
You do good Karen.
Thank you. You do good too.
Are you getting ready for your trip on Friday?
Nothing much to do except go! I believe we are going to get snow and don’t go. At this point in my life it needs to be more important than a routine eye appt or oil change to go on slick roads.
That makes sense to me, Debbie. I agree with you. Most businesses here expect you to make it no matter what, especially doctor’s offices. Our population is now approximately 496,000 to 499,000. 🥺 It used to be a comfortable, quaint town.
Even the small Fountain Valley area I live in is estimated to be close to 30,000 now.
That is a lot bigger than Somerset.
Almost double. I kind of miss a small town. Fountain still has some of its charm. But Colorado Springs? Questionable. Although I still love the Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, and all of the beautiful natural things here, there are just too many folks here! And they don’t seem to love it like me. Of course I’ve been here since I was 7.
Im on my way to bed but I want to know how you made it to the south some day. Good night Karen. Love you.
You are big! What was your city job?
I don’t think the expectation to make it is as high here. I imagine none of the schools will be open.
Well you guys aren’t used to snow and ice. Right?
Not like you I guess. But we can sometimes have a lot. You probably have more not because you are further north, but you are a higher elevation.
I understand that sentiment.
Always remember. ↓↓
😂
Oh yeah, Pam. We provide heating services in our front window. We leave one window in the living room open a little bit, and the screen is very flimsy there. A little black bird comes every night and scooches in to get warm. There is a huge pine tree shielding some of that area also. And we have bird seed scattered around the area, too. There is also an old rabbit cage we have left pretty much intact for squirrels, etc. I love to see the little animals getting warm and out of the elements.
That’s very kind of you. 💞
Thanks Pam. I can’t help but do it when I see them out there freezing or hungry and thirsty.
I did get your meaning on the snowflake, but it just made me think of them out there and trying to get water, etc
Julie called, she had gone outside because she got hot. Of course it is really cold there so she wasn’t staying out there long! Her Dad has cataract surgery the 18th. So Gery is just going to bring Julie home and go back north in time for the surgery and then stay through Christmas. Judy went to see after Jade and Jade is fine. Wanted pets from Judy. Julie said Jade has lots of places from the basement to her room with blankets to snuggle in. On the couch, on her bed, all over. She has a light left on… Read more »
Thanks for the update on Julie.
Good news re: Julie/Dad — thanks so much for the update
Safe travels for whenever she/Gery head south
Thank you so much, Debbie. 😘
