Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

Karen Marie, can you see this? Am curious regarding your eyes. Do you know what is causing it? Have you ever been checked for glaucoma?
I bought some thyme plants just to have something green to look at that doesn’t draw the little buggy gnats. They don’t like the herb smell. I don’t have plants usually because of those gnats.

Hi Lin, yes, I can see this. ❤️ Thank you. We’re “box-free.” 🤗 I started getting migraines when I was 18, and they would always start with these terrible lines, lights, psychedelic stuff, in my eyes. Once the lines and stuff went away, the headache started. Worst pain in my life, worse than labor/delivery pains, toothache, bone, muscle pain, surgery, anything! I would be in bed for 3 days, crying. And no one (except my Mom) believed that my head could possibly hurt that bad. That was back in early 70s when they hadn’t discovered migraines yet. Even though the… Read more »

Gosh, your journey wirh headaches is intense and horrible pain. I’m so sorry you’ve had to experience that and glad some of it has eased. Curious about the lights and other images. I know when I have too much sugar late at night and can’t sleep because my body is full of glucose, when I close my eyes, I see bright blue sguiggly lines and a bluish green glare. It can also happen if I don’t get enough sleep. Has an eye doctor been able to tell you what might be causing those visual images? I love houseplants but living… Read more »

Thank you, Lin. It seems really strange about our squiggly lines. I was diabetic while I was on steroids after pneumonia and resulting damage. I’m wondering if I had the diabetes in my body since I was a kid, with no signs or trouble until after the pneumonia. Curious. I do know that squiggly lines are normal prior to a migraine. Do you get headaches at all? I used to have a lot of house plants, but after I was in the hospital from pneumonia and was on bed rest, I ended up with dead plants. And I still talk… Read more »

Rarely do I get a headache. When I do it is always if my sinuses are badly stuffed up. So I take a decongestant to relieve the congestion which relieves the pressure that causes the headache. And never have those weird eye images. I’m really curious that an eye doctor hasn’t figured a cause or causes for those visual disturbances which it sounds like you’ve continued to have even after migraines stopped. I agree that plants in the home make a healthier environment. When did you have pneumonia? Sounds like it was serious.

I had double pneumonia in 2009. Almost died twice because they couldn’t find an antibiotic that worked on me. Allergic to penicillin.
Doctors say that sometimes people just have the warning signs for the migraine but it never actually comes on. Go figure, huh? Don’t you get lines and an aura?

December 21, 2025 10:55 pm
Reply to  Karen Marie

No. What I occasionally get is more like squiggly design in bright neon blue when I lay down to sleep and close my eyes. Usually if I haven’t gotten enough sleep. Probably an overtired optic nerve. No auras. Nothing like that.

I believe both events of lines, for you and me, are caused by swelling of the capillaries in the brain.

A migraine is caused by the brain tensing up and the capillaries getting so tight in the brain, that by the time they relax, they over relax and swell really large. At least that’s what I was told by the doctor who diagnosed me.

My migraines are very faint these days. They still call them migraines because of the squiggly lines in my eyes. The original doctor told me that they would continue to get worse until I hit 40, and then they would get less intense or go away. And that is exactly what happened. He also told me that I may get the eye problems without the migraine, but I never got lucky enough to have zero headache. Your eye problem could be something else though. I don’t know, they just seem related.

Having a auras is common with Migraines-its what happens before the migraine kicks in, with a migraine I get the squiggly’s and then it goes to tunnel vision I get to where I can’t even see

Well, actually I do gift myself but I always struggle with guilt if it is expensive because I know so many folk, including veterans who are homeless and without. I do donate throughout the year and support my local community esp. the veterans but never feel like I do enough. I am often haunted by the need in the world.

When I read what happens to male chicken chicks….horrid. I was a meat eater then vegetarian for a long time and vegan for a shorter time. But eventually resumed eating meat because well let’s face it, it’s tasty!

Keeping the weight off when you are no longer trying to loose weight. Trying just to get it right. Not gaining or loosing. Facing the fact that you can never eat like a normal person without gaining weight. I will still have to watch every bite.

Yes, I agree. But most people cannot eat as they like after they start aging, anyway. But you can make your bites count. Just juggle what u eat based on the amount of calories or whatever you can have in each food group per meal/day. And we can always slip up one or two days a month and have a candy bar or whatever accidentally. And you will feel so good just being normal weight — that makes up for a lot of it. You will get used to it. And it won’t bother you so much after a while.… Read more »
