Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA
Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.
There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. It is super cold here in WI. Fierce wind bringing temps barely above zero. Poor Julie has it worse up North. I hire someone to do my snow because of my back but I tend to tidy what he does around my porch. You know us women like things tidier than men…lol. Then I cleared my garage door leading to backyard and the walkway and patio. Then left walnuts for the squirrels. That sounds bad Lin….I grew up on MN and i remember feeling like that.
I didn’t know you were a kid in MN. Did you spend your entire childhood there? Till 14, I grew up south west of Chicago. Dad would take us on fun vacations out of state. One I remember was camping on a lake somewhere near Duluth. Don’t remember much other than eating walleyed pike we caught.🙂
I was born in MN and I moved to Tucson when I was 27 with a friend.
We went fishing up north every summer and caught lots of Northern and Walleye.

I used to love Walleye. I guess taste buds can change as we age – when I moved back to the Midwest I didn’t like the taste anymore. Too strong.

I know. Amazes me too. I wonder how different languages came about all over the world. Meaning what factors caused the tongue, throat or whatever to roll out a sound a certain way in one area of the planet and sound so different elsewhere. Even the countries that are close like Ireland, Scotland, England. They each sound different.
I have thought about that too. Maybe when people leave their home country, and somehow end up starting a new country somewhere else, they want to be different. So they change words around. That’s probably not exactly right, but something like that. We don’t sound like people over in Great Britain, but we don’t sound anything like the Native Americans either.
Yea, you have to wonder why, how we sound as we do. Maybe it is because we were from so many countries that everyone sorta blended together and formed a sound sorta like all the sounds were mixed together to make a similar sound. But then why did certain regions of the country still have unique sounds. The south draws out their words. The north east doesn’t pronounce their “r”.
It would be an interesting hobby to take up that study diligently.
I fell asleep again in my recliner! All I remember is that I was in the middle of responding. Too many carbs in supper methinks. I agree about how different sounds might have come about. I think the study of it is called Linguistics.

i always post just about every contact with her when she is up north. There were more today than usual. I don’t think it is really bros fault she goes out exactly, but it is for the part about not consulting Julie when to go and when to come home. She is actually too hot! That is one of the reasons she goes out a lot. Also she is not used to constantly talking. She really lives a mostly quiet life at home.
good heavens, I didn’t know he doesn’t discuss it with her. Does she get any advance warning? How in the heck can she schedule someone to care for sweet Jade. I did let her know I would care for Jade here in an emergency. I just never want contact with her brother.
One time he told her like 10 pm he was leaving the next morning. Seems he has got a little better giving her 24 hours notice. She has no choice though when to leave, when to go back. What really gets me is he won’t stop and let her get Jade, or try to get home in time for her to get Jade. Now she won’t ever ask him because it hurts for him to say no.
What is his problem?
When i tell my DB/Chuck about Julie’s DB, he gets mad at Gery for treating her so badly.

I don’t know, when it comes to Julie he is a jerk. He will do for his parents but when he took his mother to the big town for errands he got mad because her mother forgot her list, things like that.

That makes me so sad but also angry at him. I have issues with my remaining brother but he has a mental illness and I have to remind myself that he doesn’t do things intentionally to upset me. He is a soft spoken gentle guy just does irritating things like leave things for me to clean up.He just forgets or doesn’t notice or doesn’t do a good job doing it. It is a constant lesson in loving someone unconditionally even when you find yourself wanting to pull your hair out in exasperation…lol

Hi Pam🙂✋ Was just scrolling to catch up on everyone’s news. Your pizza stone intrigues me (I love pizza!!) is it for cutting the pizza after cooking it or do you cook pizza on it? I haven’t an ounce of Italian in me obviously …lol. I feel for you re: your furnace. They die at the most inconvenient times it seems. How old is yours? On it’s last leg?
You cook directly on the pizza stone; with your own crust; you can use it with frozen if you put a frozen one on the stone until it’s even temperatured. Actually, they can be used for lots of baking.
We’ve been in this house 5 years, so i really don’t know how old the furnace is.
I’m going to look into that. Thanks Pam! I’ve been in my house almost six years. Widowed old gal I bought it from had little information on the age of things ….or so she said. Found out later she didn’t declare some water issues. I got lucky in that the furnace, AC and water heater all died within the first year when I still had the one year home protection warranty.

You can really tell the diff in the nest between when the 1st egg was laid, on the 27th and today — Jewel did a lot of work on strengthening the nest.

Oh dear poor Julie. She goes outside to call me and get some privacy. She has no where to go in the house. Her brother has the “man cave” he puts an air mattress down to sleep. Then he goes to a room off the garage and can be alone as Dad isn’t going out there, they are keeping him in the house. I’ll let you interpret that yourself. Both parents have their own bedrooms. I also have sincere sympathy for Julie and her no time alone — poor thing. 😔 I loved visiting Mom, however, Chuck had to give up his room for me and then there was no space for him.

The first two times i went to stay with my cousins in Willows CA I slept on a blow up mattress on the floor in the livingroom. But, I didnt mind at all. This time I had it in the room off the garages…..but no one came through when i was sleeping…….

Got up to sun and 10 degrees/feels like 1; made it to 45.
Cleaned the stove/dishes, showered and got the new pizza stone ordered from Pampered Chef; they were very nice. I sent them a photo of it.
Think our furnace is on its last legs 😭 i was really hoping it would make it til my car’s paid for in April 🙏
We are only 24, I don’t know the wind chill. Glad you got the pizza stone ordered and it comes in one piece! Oh Pam hope the furnace waits. Have you had a tech look at it? Maybe do a temp repair to get you through this season.
