Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

Well, I just learned that I missed out on the AKC dog show this year. It was on December 13th and 14th. I know who won, but I’m going to try and watch it again anyway, somehow. The Westminster dog show for 2026 is on January 31st. Just FYI if anyone is interested. Do they have cat shows anywhere? I would like to watch those too.

I like the Westminister dog show because they show the whole group over two nights where the other one just shows bits and pieces condensed in to two hours.

The National dog show, the one we watched on Thanksgiving, has the 2-hour show. But I think the AKC dog show is a 2-day thing. It’s more spread out. They show the different events, like Westminster.
Westminster is my favorite of the three.

I think I saw one cat show in person. I don’t remember when or why. It might have been I went to a bird show or fair and they had one for cats at the same place. I don’t think I’ve even seen one on tv.

Yes Karen, Hummingbirds are very territorial and will fight other females for the rights to their nest; especially after the eggs are laid.

Good thing I closed when I did, I just got shut down after writing a whole big paragraph. Anyway, regarding my refrigerator, I realized that he had taken all the items out of the fridge to clean it out, and threw away even stuff that wasn’t expired yet, then put in a hot turkey and a hot ham and other warm food, plus only a few cold items from before. So I’m sure the temperature went exceedingly high. And by the time I got to it, itwas 50. So I moved a few things around, away from the edges and… Read more »

I’d love to have an extra freezer but my garage is not heated and cold air gets in. I do have room in the basement but I only go down there once a month because I have knee replacements that are getting close to needing to be replaced. When I bought the house I had a third bedroom changed into a laundry room so I wouldn’t have to frequent those stairs.Mostly unfinished basement so not missing anything.

It is really a big help for me to have that extra freezer. I wish you could find a place for one, Lin, especially with all those beef ribs you buy. 🥰

Ha ha…good one. Funny but beef ribs are very hard to find here. Mostly all pork. What I find in the stores is a short beef rib with little meat, Not worth the cost, Honestly Karen, within a four mile radius, I am near five different grocery stores so don’t really need an extra freezer. Esp. with only me living here.

Yes, I can see where you really do fine without one, Lin. When I first moved out here, I was about 20 miles from a grocery store. Plus, buying a new house was expensive and I really couldn’t afford to buy stuff when it wasn’t on sale. But now, I don’t get to go out very often, so it is still a big plus for me. Come to think of it, they don’t sell the regular beef ribs here either, it’s those little short things. Only the pork is normal size. I’m going to check into that.

Maybe it is easier to process pork than beef. Dunno. Can’t think too much on that otherwise I start thinking about the animals that give us those ribs and I feel bad!

Buying a new house is expensive indeed. If I didn’t have the VA home loan which allowed no down payment, never could have gotten this house! It is ridiculously expensive here to buy a home though slightly better. Luckily interest rate was low in 2020.
