Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

I didn’t have anything to say today upon getting here, so I’m just going to touch base with comments already posted. Standard fare for me, I know, I just live a boring life. 😂 I’m not complaining, I don’t need any more activity. 🌻

Pretty decent; been reading Jacinda Ardern’s book, A Different Kind of Power. She’s the former Prime Minister of New Zealand.

I bet that is a good book. It would have been nice to be involved during the Tony Blair era. I really admire him. Enjoy yourself. I’m going to go relax and stretch out on the couch for a little bit. 😉

Jo had a dentist appointment they called to cancel. The dentist can’t get off her property and the office parking lot is solid ice. So canceled.

Not only not safe, but no dentist! We are right in town, the road look clear right now but you never know if there is black ice. But out in the county I’m sure all secondary roads are bad. All area schools are cancelled the rest of the week. Courthouse closed.

Roads in town are good but lots of big branches at least one big tree down. She just went a short distance.

Hi Karen. Town doesn’t have two much bad going on. Jo saw a large tree that had crushed an out building. I guess most people stocked up and are just staying home. It is worse out in the county where some don’t have power, but that should be over soon. On the lake a good sized part of one of the marinas collapsed due to the snow and ice. The restaurant and some of the boat/houseboat slips were heavily damaged.

Hi Debbie. 🤗 I really worry with this kind of weather about trees falling and dying, and hurting people and damaging homes, landmarks, etc. I suppose most of the people living out in outlying areas are halfway prepared for something like this; i.e. backup power sources, but I know some are not. I’m really so thankful that you guys are okay. 🙏 The winter of ’26 is becoming quite a big deal.

A lot of that going around today. I think this is the biggest storm we’ve ever had throughout the country. I hope Jo isn’t going to have any unpleasant results of not being able to see the dentist. ❤️

Hope not. Jo had a root canal and bridge work done recently. She had a temporarily bridge put in and it popped out. She called and the dentist was on the way out. Jo had to hurry there and the dentist put it back in. Today she was supposed to get the permanent bridge put in and they called to say the dentist could not get off her property.

Sounds like something that could be uncomfortable. I hope she can get back in soon. That root canal sure doesn’t sound like very much fun. I just cringe when I hear those words. Poor Jo.

Good late morning…I was lazy this morning, sitting on the couch drinking coffee, reading, looking at my IPAD, etc…DH won’t be home for lunch so I’ll have to bundle up…it’s 14 now, feels like is 4…a heat wave, lol..next week we’ll have more normal temps in the double digits. last night for dinner we had scrambled eggs with bacon pieces in it…think I might have soup for lunch…not that hungry yet so a late lunch. I’m not sure what I’ll do today, will have to look at my list. My sister said she just took the ornaments off her tree..they… Read more »

Hi Lynn you are in a deep freeze. We are 22 but sustained temps this cold are not our usual for sure. But this too shall pass. I would hate to have to take dogs out in the cold but I guess you are used to it. Still no fun! Soup sounds good for lunch. I like the idea of a year around tree trmmed for the season or holiday. But that would be a lot of work, but lots of crafty people would like it.

Good morning Bella Buds and a good day to you. 22 degrees, mostly cloudy. We have over a week more for sure of low 20’s daytime highs. I’m not sure I’ve seen this long of straight temps this low for us. We still have power outages in the county and Somerset has hundreds. I’m so blessed not to have had a power outage, and happy that Nancy now has power. Greater Nashville area was one of the hardest hit areas I think in the country. Y’all have the best day possible.

Good Morning Debbie😘 I’m happy for Nancy too, I haven’t seen pictures from Nashville I think the worst I have seen has been in Oxford Mississippi, home of Ole Miss. they have no power and no gasoline, running out of food, roads can’t be traveled to many trees down, looks like they were hit by a tornado, cars and homes crushed by falling trees not just branches its so bad

I agree but I did say one of the worst, not the worst. Nashville has been shown on all the national news. Nashville may be better equipped to deal with this, they are quite a bit north of Mississippi and this system went more south than usual.
