Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

I meant 3 eggs each year for the last three years.

Got it! I got confused. They went 2 years without a single hatch, and then 3 eggs hatched last year. That’s what I was thinking. I don’t understand it.

They’ve been mating still, sometimes twice a day, so . . .

J & S have been leaving their eggs alone a lot this year, as well as the year before last. I am heartbroken. They know the ravens are there all the time. I hate to stop watching them, because I love them so much, but . . . 😰😩😢

I’m not used to seeing eggs left unattended for long.. I’m mean, I see them doing delayed incubation, but not just leave eggs.

I know, sometimes I think J really doesn’t want to have children. I think he does though.

OH NO. I really hate this, I like this nest and was planning to follow it closely. Usually a parent is close by.

No, they’ve been away for periods of time, like they do sometimes. I don’t know what they are doing.

I’m sorry Debbie, I didn’t mean to sound like I was yelling 😩 — I just watched in 2023 and 2024 as they continually left them in the cold, especially beautiful Jackie. Maybe she knows they’re not viable or something. I think Shadow actually got upset, as he stuck with the incubation duties, whereas he frequently came back to an empty nest during Jackie’s incubation time. 😢 I’m so glad I got to watch them raise Sunny and Gizmo last year. They were such good parents!!

One is married to my 1st cousins daughter, came from Cuba, and has been in this country 45 years. Cubans who make it to US soil are supposed to be automatically legal. It has been that way decades. I don’t have contact with this cousin but Nancy does. All I can figure out is he can’t prove he is Cuban. He is detained in Memphis by ice when he went to court. Can you imagine, been here 45 years?
