Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA

Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.

There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

Yep you got a good blanket there. Burrrrr! But it is pretty. My first and only winter in eastern KY I got I think about 30 inches of snow. I thought where am I living!? I didn’t know that it was like a record snowfall. I didn’t find that out until much later.

I got my turkey in the oven. Whew I got tired. So, Jo starts talking about how we should not have got a big turkey. Made me mad. I told her after wrestling with that turkey I did NOT want to hear we should not got a turkey! I said it quite emphatically. I’ll be fooling with it and the rest of the food and vacuum sealing all day. I imagine this will be my last whole turkey. Most of the time I go to Sherree’s house but this year she went to Shane’s. I was invited of course but… Read more »

I don’t blame you for being upset with Jo. After all you’re the one preparing it and cooking it and she’s complaining that you shouldn’t have bought such a big one would be different if she was doing it. I’m sure it’ll be wonderful

KyDebbie

She actually bought the turkey! I don’t think she meant it as a complaint, but I didn’t want to hear a we shoulda have!
I do hope it cooks OK. Thanks Ardy.

I’ve been in the kitchen doing stuff. I made a meatloaf for me. Cooling now. 6lb turkey breast, after thinking I’d roast it in a multicooker it was too big. Had to clean that up and put back. Was going to put it in the microwave/convection oven. Thought it would be a PITA there. Finally just decided to put it in the Instant Pot. 35 minutes compared to 3-31/2hours. He doesn’t eat the skin so don’t have to worry about browning. Just season and make sure it is to temp. I have things in my regular oven and did not… Read more »

Hi Gem so you don’t eat turkey? So you fixed a turkey breast AND meatloaf? It has probably been 20 years since I’ve cooked a whole turkey too. Maybe longer, it has probably been over 5 years since I cooked a breast. I do like dark meat, so I figured I’d freeze the whole legs right away and they will come in handy for my diet. I’ll eat on the thighs now. Jo doesn’t eat dark, so she will eat breast. I have had fatigue for a lot of years. Weight, walking issues, and undiagnosed bad AFIB I think are… Read more »

Nope no turkey for me. I was the only one out of the 6 kids that didn’t eat it. Sometimes I would have Beefaroni! When we had stew I would trade my meat for my sister’s potatoes. No pumpkin either. DH enjoys turkey sandwiches more than the actual turkey dinner. I’ll see what he wants tomorrow. He doesn’t eat wings, legs or dark meat hence the breast. The only time I did do the whole bird was when we had company. I haven’t done my leg compression in 3 weeks. Plus I haven’t done my under desk elliptical since when… Read more »

You take good care of your husband. I pretty good about eating just about every thing. My blood work is all good but it has been a good while since I’ve had cholesterol tested. As for the calories I’ve had a lot of experience. I just hope I can manage better if and when I get to the weight I want to maintain. I don’t know for sure what that weight is, I’ve never been there, but I have been close. It has been a good while since we talked about your spine. Refresh my memory. I think it caused… Read more »

No true diagnosis on the spine issue. Spring of 24 I had the lymphedema finally diagnosed, Then when that was pretty much taken care of I got the sciatica in July which wasn’t diagnosed until Sept. Was sent to spine doc and was given the back injections Oct – Nov. They didn’t help much. My leg has been wackadookie since. Sometimes I think it is the bursitis other times it feels more like the sciatica is back. When I saw my PC she had me go for another MRI, the day I was going I received a letter from spine… Read more »

I do remember most of that, just didn’t know if there were new developments. Sounds like the lymphedema is better, that is great. What about the vascular problem? You had the ablation for vascular didn’t you? Not lymphedema. Sounds like with your spine doc leaving you have gone a long time without seeing a spine doc. I mean wasn’t it Oct – Nov 2024 you had the injections, not 2025? That means you will be going over a year without seeing a spine doc. Still don’t know the real issues. I hope you get a firm diagnosis. I don’t think… Read more »

GEM, I always find it much harder to slice when it’s cold. I don’t have those muscles anymore. And I understand you don’t want to push yourself too much. Just be prepared. You provably already know this, but I just wanted to make sure.

Karen Marie, I was just about to put it in the fridge. Then decided to get it over with, so it was still warm, not hot. What a messy job though. Just as I was getting to wrapping it DH came and asked if there was anything he good do. No thank you dear. He did know I was a bit in pain by that time. My own fault forgot to put my mat down and standing on tile for hours isn’t good. I also should have put better footwear on. Are you doing a turkey or something else? I… Read more »

Hey GEM. I’m so sorry you are in pain. I get that after standing too — my feet and hips mainly. I just have to not overdo. Hard to do. I hope you feel better tomorrow and enjoy your meal. Sweet of your DH to offer help. I am cooking a 4-lb turkey breast section. Just have to thaw it in the morning, and make the boxed stuffing, heat the canned asparagus, cook and mash a couple of potatoes, and make a couple of deviled eggs. Easy-peasy. I might look around for something for dessert. 🤔 I hope you have… Read more »

I just pull it off in strands. Sometimes especially white meat I get a knife to slice. But I think it stays fresher in storage in hunks.

At least he isn’t too fussy, he eats whatever I give him. I do have a couple of quick things when I’m really tired. Yesterday as I was coming in from my nap to start supper, he brought me a can of soup and said I’ll just have this. He didn’t know I already had a piece of fish thawed in the fridge. While that was cooking I could heat up leftover rice and a veg, coleslaw just had to scoop out. Pretty easy. I would not be so good, I’m way too fussy and don’t like a lot of… Read more »

You just go ahead and make this a wonderful meal, and enjoy what you are thinking is going to be your last big whole turkey. It will be delicious! I would come if I could. wish the sun would peek out and the wind stop for a bit…my sister stopped by, she had to just sit and relax, had to take a break from our mom’s house…it can drive her crazy. She mentioned maybe taking donations and I mentioned getting a hot drink somewhere but it’s up to her..she’s just sitting now…don’t want to go anywhere where we have to walk outside so somewhere we could park close.

Yes, but it is more of a church thing. We celebrate good harvest and are thankful for it. Otherwise just normal food. That is how i know it.
The altar in church is decorated with fruits, veggies and grain.

I bet these type of emails quite a bit from the Cadillac Vet. Macie had that $900 bill in June which included blood work and parasite check. The SDMA is a kidney test. I know when I get a metabolic panel it includes 2 or 3 kidney tests. When I showed Gabi the bill she said I was charged for some of the same tests twice.
