KNF Bald Eagles
Kincaid Lake, Louisiana
You are watching a mating pair of Bald Eagles named M2(male) and F3(female). The nest and PTZ cams are located in a Loblolly pine tree near Kincaid Lake in the Kisatchie National Forest. The cams have been set-up and are maintained by the U.S. Forest service. Nesting usually starts in December followed by egg laying in mid to late January.

E1 nest – One of the eaglets is flapping and getting good height. Can’t even see it’s talons. I assume that it’s Rhoux.
Making good flight progress. Rhoux was also standing on a branch.

At the E-1 nest they can certainly pick those turtles clean.

E-1 nest – At 11:27, Anna was starting to feed a turtle that Louis had brought. The turtle grabbed Anna by the tongue or beak.
Anna almost fell backwards into Roux, and the eaglets got scared and stopped squeeing for a few seconds. Gumbo looked away.
Anna shook the turtle off her beak and looked at it, trying to decide if she should continue feeding the E’s or wait a while, but she did continue with the feeding – cautiously. That must have hurt. I never thought about how it can be hazardous for an eagle when they’re eating a turtle.
E-3 nest – Jazz seems to have gotten a raspy voice at 18:51 and 19:19. Never heard an eaglet sound like that before. Jazz’s squee was normal at the 10:35 feeding. Jazz was upset at the 18:51 feeding because s/he hardly got anything at 10:35, and at 18:50, the parent was feeding all the food to Nola again.
So many turtles in the E-1 nest. It’s interesting that there aren’t any in the E-3 nest, and both nests are located at the same lake.
Interesting shell patterns. The shell on the left has a live turtle in it.
The turtle moves into the rail branches to try to escape.
Roux hears the turtle making noise and goes to see what is moving, just glances at the turtle briefly, and turns away.
I can’t remember if it’s the male or female parent but one of them brings turtles. The other has never brought a turtle.
The male kept bringing turtles last season. There were around 3 dozen in the nest at one point. It was so funny, like a turtle collection.
