Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA
Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.
There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. The chicks will continue to grow in the nest for about three to four weeks before fledging. More information about the cams, set-up or to make a donation please visit alyssasnaturesanctuary.org.

Good morning Bellas, woke up this morning to a screech owl calling that was a treat, maybe it was hunting under the bird feeders, Grab a mouse breakfast. They are a tiny owl either gray in color or a red morph like this one. Its very cold and 4 days of this. Plans this and that inside
Closed the University here because of the temps, they never close
Wise.
Hi Julie
Good Morning Ardyth, whatcha doing today?
nothing and i am bored
I’m doing not much either, I never get bored there’s always something to do around here, I play with Jade-makephone calls you know this and that. Have you been walking?
Good morning Sunshine. Must have been fun hearing the little owl. They are cute. Oh Julie just stay in, try to keep warm those temps are unbelievable. It would take a very short time to get frostbite.
we used to hear a screech owl down the street, it’s been awhile..they are cute.
10 minutes for frost bite at our temps, on bare skin,I wouldn’t be doing any are skin today
😳😫🥶. Be sure you don’t need anything from the garage. Do you expect more snow?
Good night all. I hope everyone sleeps well and tries not to worry. Prayers work, and I am praying, as are others. Sleep well. ❤️😘

Forgot to say good morning, lol.

For icy walks:
How it works: Dry towels or thick blankets laid over icy steps or walkways provide immediate traction. The fabric can freeze to the ice, creating a rough, non-slip surface.
Best types of blankets: Thick blankets, such as furniture protectors or old towels, are recommended for the best grip.
Limitations: The blankets can become saturated with water, and they are generally a temporary solution rather than a long-term fix.
Removal: It may be necessary to pour warm water over the blanket to remove it if it has frozen to the steps.
Thanks Karen. Good to know.
You’re welcome Debbie. I wanted to make sure you had all the facts, and I may know more tips, but I can’t think of any right now. Sounds like you really don’t need a list anyway. Do you know when the worst is supposed to come?
Saturday is the worst.
Well, it could go away by that time. Maybe not, but it’s a possibility.
It does work Karen Marie but they can also become detactched in a big sheet, like a flying carpet only a frozen sheet of towel that slides like a frozen sled.My brother Micheal had that happen to him on my parents deck the don’t always stick to the surface they are on. So you need to be carefully and always have your hand on something. Sand or grit works the best for walking, also side walk salt some work at below 0 temps but can also add grip to a icey surface
Prayers for all during the storm. 🙏❤️Debbie, you are the most prepared person I know. If you have to walk on ice, try maybe throw some blankets down ahead of you. I heard it helps. I am praying really hard though, that it won’t get that bad. 🙏
I don’t feel prepared. Blankets are a good idea Karen. Thank you! And how are you? How was your day? Are you expecting anything bad?
Debbie, I am doing fine as far as the weather goes, thank you. This is Colorado, I always expect the worst. It can really do most anything here, even when it’s sunny outside, I think. I don’t think we are expected to have anything too bad right now. And you are the most prepared person I’ve ever known. I think you are pretty ready. Yes, I’m repeating myself, you are that ready.
My brain is working over time. Good you aren’t expecting bad weather. Do you have a fear of a power outage?
I know. I would be the same way if I was there. But, you are ready for it. Much more ready than you would have been last year or the year before. Have you written list and checked it off?
No list yet.
What is Casey doing?
Just resting.
Does he feel your nervousness?
He can especially if you get loud. But I’m not showing anything, and I’m not anxious right now.
That’s good to know. He’s such a sweet boy. I watched the video that the guest sent you and of course it made me think of Casey. They can be so wonderful. I know it takes some work to take care of them, but I bet you feel like he’s a little friend sitting there with you. 🥰
He is a brat. 🤣
Yeah, you love him. ❤️
Hello..going to try and relax..went to Aldi for a few things…came home and after a little while couldn’t find Sulley..looked and looked, was so upset because DH was going to be leaving and I’ve been worried about people and animals out in the below zero temps..finally found him hiding in a new spot, but my body is still feeling it…I need to settle down, maybe drink some calming tea.
Hi Lynn. I think just Debbie and I are only ones here. I’m going to sign off soon. Glad you found your furry friend! I don’t recall where you are but hope you can be sage and warm if you are going to be affected by “The Big Chill”! We may get down to 40 below with the wind chill. I’m prepared if we do lose power, though I hope we don’t.
How do you stay warm Lin?
Do you mean if power goes out? Honestly I’ve never experienced a long winter outage. I imagine I would bundle up in layers and stay in the warmest part of my house as much as I can. So please answer me as I am worrying – will you and Jo have to walk outside to get to any of those vehicles? Or do you have an attached garage? Just please be careful if you have to walk outside.
We have to walk outside but just a few feet. So I don’t know how that would go. I wish I had some spiky golf shoes! I don’t know if I could get off the floor in the house now that I’m better. I couldn’t the like dozen times I fell. But maybe now I can. I’m healthier and lighter. But ice is a whole nuther thing.
Hi Debbie. 😘I responded above.
♥️
I know someone who walked on black ice and this person had several woman -nylon -stockings wrapped around his shoes and it helped on the ice. I have never tried that though.
Good morning my friend and BE SAFE !🥰
Years ago, living in New Mexico, I was driving home from a road trip. As I was crossing an overpass, I hit a patch of black ice. Thank heavens at that moment no other traffic close by because I violently slid across the road hit a bank and flipped over smashing my window shield. No serious injuries. Whew! So you get ice storms there?
Oh goodness !
In my early years of driving i once hit a bank, too. And once i drove straight into a cornfield. Out again backwards. On my way home from a club , dancing and stuff.😄.
Yes we get ice-rain . Not good.
Lin, i gotta go to bed, its almost 2 am here. Nite.
There are things called Yak tracks but I found them hard to pull over my boots. I imagine you could get upmoff the floor now. How is your arm and leg strength?
I think arm strength is decent, legs pretty weak.
There you are🤗 Glad your weather is not horrid today! I’m signing off to have some lunch and other things, Will check in later. Hugs…
Again best wishes for you. Good night.😘
Hi there Gabi! I hope you had a good day.
I did sweetie. I hope you, too. Be careful tomorrow. 😴…
Thank you Gabi Habibi.
🥰😍😘👻.
Pills.😉
Lin, I wanted to say hi to you. 🤗 Take care of yourself during the storm. I don’t know much about your house or it’s capabilities etc, but I am praying that you can stay warm and comfortable and not have any issues. 🙏
I was just telling Debbie that I had to sign oit then sign back in. I tried several times to reply to you and I kept getting a message that said Invalid field value. Whatever that means. Well all works now. So HI 🙂 Yes, well prepared here. Errands done for next several days, cell phone charged, candles, lanterns and weather radio on table. Plenty of things to bundle up in if we lose power. I have an attached garage so easy access to car if need to be in it. My brother lives about four miles from me in… Read more »
You ROCK Lin! I don’t think we have a weather radio. I’ll just look out the window and say, hey it is snowing. And I got indoor/outdoor thermometer. There isn’t really anything else I need. It is not like needing to seek shelter because a tornado is heading my way. There really isn’t anything to do. But I can get tv on my phone! And the local radio station.
The local radio stations are so great with stuff like that. Gotta love ’em. ❤️
We get tornadoes so the weather radio is so helpful. My cell is a basic flip phone so no internet or TV.
Now I’m getting messages telling me my input is too short nd not letting me post. let’s see if this one posts.
Hi Lin. 😘 You are just right on top of it. 😊 I understand about not being able to get back to someone. Sometimes I get kicked off twice before being able to make contact. Being stuck in the house would be a good time to knit or crochet.
Seven years in military and a Virgo – I’m the Queen of preparedness…ha ha! I used to knit but never mounted to much. A few scarfs and baby blankets. My fingers and thumbs are too arthritic to do it now. Do you?
Sorry Lin, I got kicked off, would you believe it? I used to knit and crochet all the time. I made blankets, baby booties, flowers, tablecloths, doilies, etc. I really enjoy it. But now, like you, I have too much arthritis. I’m still trying to get my hands fixed some how.
Wow, you were way more advanced! I bet you made some really pretty things. My aunt was a long time crocheter and was so good, she would win top prize at their fairs. I’m off to bed to red a bit and then sleep. Always nice to chat with you Karen. You are so nice🥰 Stay warm and safe.
I hope you sleep well, Lin. I really enjoy talking with you. You are very sweet. Stay safe. 🙏😘
Back at you🙂 Nightie night.
LIN
When you sit in the running car to get warm, make sure that the garage door is open. Dont breathe in those auto exhaust fumes .
Best wishes. This is very cold on your end.😱🥶🥴.
Hi Gabi. You are so sweet. No worries. Yes, we are very cold but other than that we have sun. We got a little snow this morning but not much. Got all my errands done yesterday so I can be home safe and snug the next several days. Hope you are doing okay!
Yes, i am ok, thanks. Good that this retired nurse is so well prepared.
Ooh that hot chocolate looks good! How are you feeling on the new med?
Good, i tolerate both new pills well.
Happy to hear that! I always hold my breath when taking a new med and then sigh in relief that no noticeably side effects.
Same here, since i have bad allergies against some meds.
Metamizole would kill me. Anaphylactic reaction in the past.
Me off now.😘
Good night Gabi. I’m trying to answer replies then I’m off too. Stay warm. I’ll peek in tomortow.
👋
You must have a doppleganger. I just saw you on the Smack😁🐳
In german this is Doppelgänger. Almost the same word.
Me outta here now.
👋👋🥰
I’m in IL and under an extreme cold warning.
I’m in WI, shivering in it too. Stay warm!
Hold on to Sulley and love on him if he lets you. That will calm you. If not him, then your most mellow pet. Nothing better than a cuddle session to calm the nerves. I try not to think of the cats out there. I hope someone finds our box in the barn.
Lynn, that is so sad that you couldn’t find your Sulley. Got you all worked up. Some tea might be a really good thing, you’re right. Praying for you. 🙏Is your husband home yet?
no, he takes care of his dad..I’m ok now, just tired.
That’s good. You can rest now.
I’m glad he’s home for you. I thought he came home sometimes for the night. I bet you are tired, worrying and all. I’m glad you’re feeling better. 😘
he went to his dad’s.
