Live Hummingbird Nest Cam – Oceanside, CA
Your watching a live broadcast of wild female hummingbirds nesting.
There are several Hummers that nest in this yard. Their nests are usually located bushes and no larger than the size of a golf ball. The nest is made from feathers, leaves and other parts of plant matter. She then wraps this material together with spider webs. The eggs she lays are about the size of a breath mint(tic-tac). Hummingbirds lay 1 or 2 eggs per clutch. You can expect to see them hatch after about 14-16 days from the date they are laid. yeah, our wind-chill this morning was -49 and I think it will be tonight too I go out about every 7 or 8 hours to start my car but I’m not out for long
I heard on the news it was -51
yeah it did reach that I think it was about 49 when I checked later

Jade required quick medical intervention due to lack of feedings. She is now with our professional re-habber and is doing well! We will keep you informed.

Deborah, thank you for sharing this. I happened to peek at the cam and was trying to figure if the lens angle had changed or the nest blew off or what. I have seen Jade being feed some days I’ve viewed but I don’t watch the cam much. I never knew hummingbird babies sometimes don’t get enough to eat. i’ll Goggle on it just to learn more. Prayers for little Jade. Will Jewel be freaked out the nest is gone?
yeah, I wondered how Jewel will handle this as well, thanks to Becki I wouldn’t have noticed for a while, apparently winding back on the camera they removed the baby at about 10:30 this morning their time
They changed the cam view so not sure if the nest is on the branch? the video went dark when they took Jade, they might of removed the nest for Jade to be rehabbed in?

I got so worried when I started to read this, thinking it was kitty Jade! Until I read “lack of feedings”. I didn’t know Jewel’s baby was named Jade. Glad it wasn’t your Jade and hope baby Jade will be okay. Wonder if Jewel is stressing not seeing the nest.

😍I have furry Jade, the chick has a very good chance with the rehabber. Jewel will be very worried she is traumatized looking for her nest, I’m sure. Maybe she will start building a new nest in a few days to lay more eggs
